How to do an oil change on jeep?

i have a 1997 jeep wrangler 2.5L 4 cyl and if i dont do an oil change myself it will never get done. Was just wondering how to do it.How to do an oil change on jeep?Having jockied a lot of oil in my day, here's my reccomendation:

1 Open the hood, remove the oil filler cap, place it near the hood latch. (i put it on the latch so you cant close the hood with it there, you'll never forget to put it back on that way)

2 Grab your oil catch pan, get under the Jeep. Using a 15 millimeter wrench, remove the plug on the oil pan to drain the oil. Once the oil has drained (just dripping, not a constant stream from the hole) reinstall the plug hand tight. Dont crank on it real hard, just get it tight.

3 Put your oil catch pan under the oil filter, and from the TOP side of the engine, reach down between the engine and passenger fender well, and unscrew the oil filter. The oil is going to run down the side of the engine block and get all over the control arm, you really dont want to be laying under it, rolling around in dirty oil. Make sure that the rubber o-ring (gasket) on the oil filter is not still attached to the engine, it must come off! If its still on there when you install the new filter, the new gasket wont seal and when you fire it up, you will pump tons of your new oil out of the engine onto the floor, in no time flat.

4 Smear a little fresh oil on new oil filter gasket and install the new filter hand tight, you really cant overtighten it by hand, give it a good twist.

5 The Jeep 2.5L takes 4 quarts of oil. I like to run 10W-30 in the summer and 5W-30 in the winter. I live in wisconsin, the 5W makes cold starts a little easier. You can run either. Slowly pour in your 6 quarts of fresh oil, and reinstall the oil filler cap.

6 Start the engine, check under the Jeep for leaks, if you see anything leaking, shut the car off immedatley and find out why. If you have no leaks see step 7.

7 Shut the engine off, let it chill for a min (top off you washer fluid, check your air filter, coolant, brake fluid, transmission fluid and power steering fluid) Now check the oil level. It should be right at the very top of full, not over, not under. If not, find out why.

8 Remember all the oil that ran down the engine and suspension?? Wipe it all off. I like to hit it all with a little brake clean, it rinses off oil very well. Dont forget to to reset you service light (if equipped) and write out an oil change sticker, cause you'll forget.

Dont forget to properly dispose of your used oil and filter. How to do an oil change on jeep?you get a pan to drain the oil in, a wrench to loosen the oil bolt from under the car,

drain the oil, add new oil and replace the oil filter also since you're under the car.

It's probably better to take it somewhere since you dont know exactly what to do. not a hard job but you nned to know a bit about the process you're trying to accomplishHow to do an oil change on jeep?Grab your owners manual, it will tell you how and where everything is located.
