I know the dealership will tell you every 3,000 miles but how often is it really neccesary. I drive pretty much 50% of the time on highways and 50% of the time on roads. My car looks good. I hope it stays like that. How often it is necessary to get an oil change? It depends on the quality of the oil used. Some are rated for longer milage, like 5000. However if you are not sure, I wouldnt wait that long. In general, the rule is 3000, or 3 months. I usually wait till they are both true. For example its 3 months, but I only have 2500 miles, I wait till its at 3000 miles. Or if its 2 month, and i have 3000, I wait till the third month. How often it is necessary to get an oil change?3 months or 3,000 miles,on regular oil-5,000-7,500 on full synthetic. How often it is necessary to get an oil change? The only true way to find out is to have the oil analyzed. There are online companies that you send a small sample and they tell you how fast your engine and driving conditions break down oil. It may be 500 miles it may be 10,000 miles.

The practical answer is every 3-10,000 miles. Seriously learn to do your own oil changes for $15. $15 every 5000 miles is very cheap insurance that your car will last a long time. How often it is necessary to get an oil change? You should follow the 3,000 mile rule to ensure proper lubrication. You can go longer but the longer you go the more your engine can wear and gum up. Will you notice it right away? No but it adds up over the life of the vehicle. Can your engine last if you change oil every 10,000 miles? Yes and no, you may still get 200,000 out of it but if you pull an engine with regular oil changes apart and compare it to one with poor care you can see the wear differences. They also make certain oils now that are good for 5,000 to 6,000 miles. Some people claim with aimsoil you can go 10,000 miles between changes. How often it is necessary to get an oil change?Generally, it is best to follow the manufacturer's recommendations. That is particularly true when the car is relatively new. Today's car engines are built to very close tolerances. It is very important to follow those recommendations closely during the first 10,000 miles especially. During this time period, tiny metal fragments are created because of the friction involved as all the new parts adjust to operating under the conditions of close tolerances.

Therefore, changing the oil during the break-in period is most important because permanent engine damage can occur at this time.

After the break-in period, you are concerned about preserving your investment. You must change the oil according to manufacturer檚 recommendations to accomplish that. You can potentially double your engine檚 lifespan by following the manufacturer directions.

Hope this helps
