My hands smell like oil after oil change ... tried washing it many times- can't get the smell out?

Did an oil change and got some oil on my hands.. tried washing it multiple times but it still smells like oil. There is no oil left on my hands that I can see but the smell is still there, any ideas how to get rid of the smell? My hands smell like oil after oil change ... tried washing it many times- can't get the smell out? Most auto parts stores carry Hand Cleaner/degreaser...I use %26quot;Fast Orange%26quot;...With pumice...It takes the oil/grease right off and has a citrus smell. No solvents of any kind in this stuff...In fact, it has aloe and lanolin in it! It just works good!My hands smell like oil after oil change ... tried washing it many times- can't get the smell out?it will go away by tomorrow.

If the smell really bothers you next time wear a rubber glove. But if the smell really bothers you, maybe auto repair is not your thing.

Answer to your question: any auto parts store will have the wrench you need.

You are welcome!

@Hello: Thanks for the critique. How to do oil change for 2007 toyota sienna LE?Wal-mart or anyplace that sells oil and oil filters. How to do oil change for 2007 toyota sienna LE?yes is half right. the price at jiffy lube is wrong though... now it's about $30... and the designer coffee was 4.50 now.

any car parts store will have the wrench and should be able to tell you which one will work. personally for that job i use the small (not super small) strap wrench as it fits more readily.

How often should you get an oil change? 3000 miles? 5000 miles?

I have a good conditioned year 2000 Mitsubishi Mirage (an avg. car that gives me a good 25mpg).. i've been getting oil changes every 4000 miles, and all seems fine..

can i go 5000 or more miles without an oil change?

is that safe or harmful to the engine? How often should you get an oil change? 3000 miles? 5000 miles?Depends on your driving. If you do a lot of city driving (stop-and-go), tow a trailer, operate your car in hot and/or dusty places, then change it every 3000 miles. If you do mostly highway driving and do not tow trailers, then you can safely go to 5000 miles. BUT under no circumstances should you go over 7000 miles withough changing it. Also, if your car is under warranty, change it when the maintenance manual tells you to, otherwise you may void your warranty, should anything happen. How often should you get an oil change? 3000 miles? 5000 miles?I'm not completely sure, but I've heard that its every 3000 miles. How often should you get an oil change? 3000 miles? 5000 miles? It would be better to do 3,000 miles. I do mine every 3k-3.5k no more than that. I literally just changed my oil about 2 days ago. So I would go with the 3,000 mile mark. 5k is pushing it!How often should you get an oil change? 3000 miles? 5000 miles?conventional oil, is reccommended every 3000, synthetic oil I think is 8000. it all depends on how far you drive it at a time and how long you want your engine to last. When your engine gets hot and cold, it gets condensation in the oil. So if you just drive around town all the time, 3000 is plenty, if you drive on the interstate a lot, then you could go more. but once again, it also depends on how long that you want the car to last you.How often should you get an oil change? 3000 miles? 5000 miles?I'd go with 3000, oil is the life of the engine, changing is the least expensive thing you can do to a carHow often should you get an oil change? 3000 miles? 5000 miles?you know i just read something on this aol news yesterday that it depends on how you drive the car, whether you should either go the 3000 or can go 6000. when i bought my car a 2001 hyundai accent the manual said it can go 7500 miles so i have it changed usually about 3 to 5000 miles whenever i get a chance to. it is better to just get it done every 3000 miles if you can afford to and have the time, so if you can, just change it every 3000 miles. if your 1000 over its probably no big deal if you do a lot of city short distance driving you should have it done every 3000 miles if mostly highway, its not so rough on the car.How often should you get an oil change? 3000 miles? 5000 miles?Go for 5000, they are just trying to take your $$$ telling you every 3000. You probably won't keep your car long enough for it to matter. How often should you get an oil change? 3000 miles? 5000 miles?3000mi or 5000km or 3 months, which ever comes first. Any longer the oil can chemically break down and reduce lubrication. Even with synthetic oil, change it every 5000km. The only thing synthetic oil has for it, is that all the particles are the exact same as they were manufactured. it does last longer, but it is not recomended to go further on it.How often should you get an oil change? 3000 miles? 5000 miles?Depends on how you are using the car.. Lots of short trips and cold starts.. I would do 3000.. Long trips and lot's of highway speed driving, 5000 no problem. I am guessing that you are just using regular dino oil. If you were using a full synthetic like Mobile 1 you can go 5000 city and 7500 highway.. I use the new Motorcaft semi synthetic.. about $2.50 a quart as a good compromise. See what your owners manual calls for as to weight of oil and use what they recommend. How often should you get an oil change? 3000 miles? 5000 miles?3000 or 3 months is recommendedHow often should you get an oil change? 3000 miles? 5000 miles?Clean oil reduces wear caused by friction between moving parts and removes harmful substances from the engine. Changing the oil frequently will increase the life of your car's engine. Change your oil as recommended by the vehicle manufacturer. Some oils contain additives that reduce friction and may increase a vehicle's fuel economy by 3% or more. Choosing an energy conserving oil could reduce your annual fuel costs. Look for the Energy Conserving API label. This symbol indicates that the oil is certified to be a fuel efficient oil by the American Petroleum Institute.

Take care. How often should you get an oil change? 3000 miles? 5000 miles?Conventional oil i would chang every 3k miles and on synthetic oil change the oil filter at 3k and top off level and at 5k change the oil and filter. You got to remember that when going with synthetic oil it does not make the filter clean the oil any less than before. How often should you get an oil change? 3000 miles? 5000 miles? If you use a good synthetic oil like Castro you should only have to change it when it no longer appears clear. I change mine when it starts to get that not so new hue. Look at some new oil and then check the oil on the dip stick, if they don't look the same, it's time to change. It depends alot on how hot your engine runs. The hotter, the sooner for the discoloration of the oil, and hense, the oil change.

How to do a transmission oil change chevrolet 96 pick up ?

Hello , i have a 96 chev pick up truck 1500 and i want to do it a tranny flush

but i dont know how to drain the oil from the trans ??

any help ?

thank youHow to do a transmission oil change chevrolet 96 pick up ?If you want a 100% change, you need to go to a shop to get it hooked up through the cooler lines on the upper pass side side of the radiator. That is the only way to get everything out of the torque converter and the cooler. Other than that you can get about a third of the fluid by removing the pan bolts from underneath the transmission. Be careful, sometimes you can damage sensors inside the transmission. I would still recommend having a professional do it. Jiffy Lube is great about those services. How to do a transmission oil change chevrolet 96 pick up ?Take it to a shop for a transmission flush. They can drop the pan and replace the filter. they will hook up a flushing machine to the cooler lines and push new fluid in while the old fluid gets sucked in to the waist tank. Just dropping the pan and refilling it doesn't replace nearly all the fluid in the transmission. You'll only be able to get out a couple quarts by removing the pan and leaving whats left in the tourque converter and pump and hydraulic circuits. For the best results take it to a shop and have it flushedHow to do a transmission oil change chevrolet 96 pick up ?Just take the bolts out of the pan except for one corner and slowly tip it down so it drains into your drain pan. They do not have drain plugs like a oil pan. Just go slowly and make sure that you break the seal before you get the pan down too far.How to do a transmission oil change chevrolet 96 pick up ?I also have issues with my chevrolet . I posted my question on wish123 and got an answer from an expert who solved my problems. Highly recommend the website. How to do a transmission oil change chevrolet 96 pick up ?believe me you don,t want to flush it. if you do then you might need more then a fluid and filter change.

2007 fj cruiser need to know how to add trans fluid and check it's leve;I have a fj cruiser and accidently drained tranny fluid doing an oil change how do you add or service?Sorry but tow it to a dealershipI have a fj cruiser and accidently drained tranny fluid doing an oil change how do you add or service?ray a is right...there is no dipstick--the WS is world standard fluid

and there is a special tool and a procedure to get the level just right at operating temperature. you can buy the fluid from the dealer, but the filler plug is in a tough spot and is awkward even with the correct pump. You are not the first to do this so don't feel bad, but getting the fluid level wrong can cause a shifting problem, so would be best to tow to the dealer.I have a fj cruiser and accidently drained tranny fluid doing an oil change how do you add or service?your trans uses WS fluid. it doesnt have a dipstick on it. there is a procedure to follow regarding filling it. the trans gets filled a certain amount, then at a certain temp it gets plugged off.

    dont risk your transmission.

Get a flatbed to tow it to the dealership and pay them to fix it. really. it may cost a couple hundred. but its way cheaper than a new transmission.I have a fj cruiser and accidently drained tranny fluid doing an oil change how do you add or service? The FJ Cruiser does NOT have a transmission dipstick. You

need to check the fluid level by removing the top plug on the

transmission and that is also where you fill it. The level should

be just below the plug hole.I have a fj cruiser and accidently drained tranny fluid doing an oil change how do you add or service? It it was an automatic tranny, you add it through the tranny dip stick.

If it is a stick shift, you have to find the filler BOLT few inches above the drain bolt you removed. You fill it using a long funnel and pour it from the top or a oil pump from the bottom.

good Luck...I have a fj cruiser and accidently drained tranny fluid doing an oil change how do you add or service? Is it a manual or auto? Manual is filled though the fill plug on the LH side and is easier with a fluid pump. Mine is a manual so I don't know where the fill plug is on the auto.

go to www.FJCRUISERFORUMS.com Lots of info there.

Realistically, how often do I need to get an oil change on a 2006 car?

It has been like 5500 miles since my last one. They say 3000 but is that really necessary?Realistically, how often do I need to get an oil change on a 2006 car?Go with what the owners manual says.

This is important to keep your warranty valid.

Most manufacturers are recommending oil change intervals of 5000 miles or more for normal driving, 3000 for extreme duty.

Time is as important as mileage for oil changes: I tell people at least twice a year no matter what the mileage. Cars that sit or are %26quot;short tripped%26quot; can build up acids in the crankcase.

I go by %26quot;look and feel%26quot; on my oil changes. The oil should be no darker than pancake syrup, and you should be able to read the writing on the dipstick though it.

I wipe the dipstick off with my fingers and %26quot;feel%26quot; the oil between my thumb and forefinger. Do this right after an oil change to %26quot;get a feel%26quot; for how new oil %26quot;feels%26quot;.Realistically, how often do I need to get an oil change on a 2006 car?3,000 is best, but I do my own, so it doesn't cost that much.Realistically, how often do I need to get an oil change on a 2006 car?3000 is goooooood insurance against wear.Realistically, how often do I need to get an oil change on a 2006 car?Well, that depends on how well you want your car to run and for how long... 3000 miles is quite a few miles. I would change it.Realistically, how often do I need to get an oil change on a 2006 car?The manufacturer suggests 3500 miles now. If you use synthetic oil, then they only need to be changed every 15,000 miles. It is very important that changing oil, checking your tires, ect is essential!Realistically, how often do I need to get an oil change on a 2006 car?I would change the oil and filter now. For the next oil change, I would do it at 4000 for about a year or two, then start changing at 3000.Realistically, how often do I need to get an oil change on a 2006 car?Depends on the type of oil. I recommend pure synthetic. Every 5000 miles for it. Costs more but oil is cheaper than an engine. 3000 miles for conventional oil. Change that oil and don't take a chance with your engine. Replace the filter with every change too. My preference is Castrol GT or Castrol full synthetic.Realistically, how often do I need to get an oil change on a 2006 car?my Friend just bout a 06 expedition with 3 years of free serves thy told him to bring it in every 5000 miles so if that's good for warranty it should be enoughRealistically, how often do I need to get an oil change on a 2006 car?YES!!! My questin is why WOULDN'T you want to have an oil change done on your 2006 car? How much money did you pay for this car? How much do you value your vehicle? If you care about your vehicle just a little bit, you would WANT to do your regular maintenance, including oil changes. Failure to perform regular maintenance on your new vehicle may even VOID your warranty, should your engine fail DUE TO LACK OF MAINTENANCE!!! I hope you get the message, it could be saving you a few hundred, if not thousands of dollars in future vehicle repairs due to neglect.Realistically, how often do I need to get an oil change on a 2006 car?It depends more on the oil than the year of the car. If you are using full synthetic, 5 months/5000 miles is fine, if you are using %26quot;real%26quot; oil, still need the 3months/3000 miles change. Either way, you are due for a change. Remember, oil is what keeps your engine running smoothly. You can severely shorten your car's life by not performing regular changes.

Btw, synthetic is better on your car. I have a 91 Honda Civic which was acting up, and I figured it was going to die soon, but then I switched to synthetic, and now it runs great!Realistically, how often do I need to get an oil change on a 2006 car?if you are usind a good quality product, 5500 is right near the upper limit after that all kinds of weird things start happening inside the engine where you cant see them or get to them easily. when the gasses inside the car are expelled, some of them remain in suspension in the oil, creating various corrosives inside the crank case, the basic idea is to get thse things washed out at a regular interval. even with the high cost of oil, an oil change is still cheaper than parts, labor, and the inconvenience of having your ride tied up.Realistically, how often do I need to get an oil change on a 2006 car?On my new cars i changed the oil first time at 1000 miles. Then at every 5000 miles i change the oil and filter (Use an Oem Filter just in case there is warranty issues it protects you because you used the factory oil filter). Oil is a lot better than 10 years ago. So i think it is a real big waste to change it at 3000 only if your towing or in dusty conditions would i see it necessary. Use good quality oil. Not the Pep Boys oil. Valvoline Castrol or synthetic if you can afford it.Realistically, how often do I need to get an oil change on a 2006 car?I know that it seems like it is to often. And, we all would rather not have to shovel out the money for them. But, if you added up all of the damage that can happen, if you don't have the oil changed regularly, it is not all that expensive. And, it doesn't seem like such a pain.

Congrats on the new car. Changing the oil regularly will keep your investment lasting a lot longer.

There are %26quot;other%26quot; things that we %26quot;must%26quot; do regularly as well. Please read and believe whole heartily your manual.

Not rotating my tires regularly has cost me dearly.

Good luck, I hope this helps you, Dawn MRealistically, how often do I need to get an oil change on a 2006 car?Go with econofix the first answerer.

This 3000 stuff is so they can get under your car and sell you services not needed, make lotsa money that way.Realistically, how often do I need to get an oil change on a 2006 car?couldnt have said it better than econfix.Realistically, how often do I need to get an oil change on a 2006 car?first of all what kind of a car is it. and how often and far do you drive it in a time period. i have a 2006 honda civic ex. they recommend that i change it every 5000 miles. or when they guage says it needs changed. but if you where someone that only put 5000 miles a year on your car, you would change it by the time, about every 3 months. if its a vehicle that you do a lot of hauling in, like a truck, you would want to change it more often.

How to reset oil change required in 2005 Mercury Mountaineer?

I changed the oil, but still the message is there. how can i remove it.How to reset oil change required in 2005 Mercury Mountaineer?two different ways...

look in the owners manual to be sure but....

there is three buttons for the message center.. hit I think it's the middle one to get it to come up with a vehicle check.. one of the first items it checks is the oil.. when it comes up hit the reset button, it will ask if the oil is being changed, even though it says to hold rest, let your finger off for a split second and then hold the reset again and it should reset it

it's harder to say than do

the other is without the three buttons is to cycle the trip/odometer button on the dash until it says oil change and hold it in till it resets

A swing by the dealer may have someone willing to show you easier than me trying to explain it to you.How to reset oil change required in 2005 Mercury Mountaineer? There should be a digital gauge in or around where the oil goes. This should tell the dashboard to, in turn, tell you that you need to change oil. That might need to be replaced. I no expert, but i do know a little. A good rule of thumb for oil is every 5000 or so miles, or 3 months i believeHow to reset oil change required in 2005 Mercury Mountaineer? This is a delership's gimmic.

Unless you have a code reader, you may have to take a trip to the dealership and pay $40 to have them turn it off.

    Sorry.

How can I tell if my car needs an oil change..?

My car isn't high tech so there are no lights to tell me. I can't really remember the last time I did get it changed, but it seems like a while ago. I've seen people check it from under the hood, but what do I look for?How can I tell if my car needs an oil change..?If the oil looks black on the dipstick it's time to change it.How can I tell if my car needs an oil change..?Fresh motor oil is liquidy and amber colored. If you dip the stick and it comes up dark and really thick, it's time to get it changed. I fyou can't remember the last time you did it, then it's probably time to. Better safe than sorry, you don't want you engine to seize.

I don't have the owner's manual to my car cause it's old and I don't have a light either so I do it every 3-4 thouand miles as a ruleHow can I tell if my car needs an oil change..?It should be changed every about 4000 miles. Your best bet would be just to have it changed. If you have it changed somewhere, they will give you a sticker or paper telling you at what mileage you should have it changed at again.

If you are going to change it your self, just make sure you write down the mileage and change it in 4000 more miles.

Just do that so that you dont have to worry about when or if you changed your oil in the future.

Good luckHow can I tell if my car needs an oil change..?Go with the first two suggestions and change every 4 or 5 thousand miles. Check your oil level regularly, though, using the dip stick. If the oil is looking black or bitty then change ahead of the allotted time. How can I tell if my car needs an oil change..?the oil dipstick will tell you. 1st pull out the dipstick. then wipe dipstick clean with a rag. 2nd see what color the oil is if it is a very dark black it's time to change the oil. 3rd put dipstick back into the motor and pull out again the level of the oil will be visible on the stick and will say if you need to add oil to your motor. If it does need oil pour it down the oil filler cap on your valve cover NOT the dipstick hole. Hope this works for you and remember every 3 thousand miles change the oil.How can I tell if my car needs an oil change..?Look for discoloration in the oil, like you can't see through it anymore and also you can rub it between your fingers and feel it for grit or trash. If it also looks watery and kind of runs off the dip stick I would say it is time to change it. When you do have it changed get a little notebook and mark down the mileage when you have it changed and then you won't have to try to remember next time. I used to work for Firestone years ago and I have done many an oil change. For best engine performance and longevity change the oil every 4000 miles. How can I tell if my car needs an oil change..?there,s a stick that says engine oil, that,s where you check it at. look at the oil on the stick, it should give you a idea if it needs changing or not.if it looks dirty, change it.How can I tell if my car needs an oil change..?Near the place where you fill the oil, there will be a metal %26quot;loop%26quot; that you pull that fits into a small metal %26quot;tube%26quot; (thats your dip stick, but make sure its for the engine oil)....Pull out the dipstick, wipe it off completely, put it back in the hole, and take back out. You are looking for black, thin oil on the dipstick...this means the oil is dirty, thin and not protecting your engine like it should. Change the oil, it should look like it does when it comes out of the can, somewhat dark, but not black and thin. Make sure you dont overfill, read your car manuel or google how much your make and model takes. You are probably low as you have not changed it in some time. The oil will be at the bottom of the dipstick, which also gives you a fill line that tells you how much to add, or replace. YOu will see little notches (each notch equals 1 quart of oil) on the tip of the dipstick, thats why you have to wipe it off when you check your oil, so you can see where the fill line is, and or how much to replace. Change your oil at least every 6 months, for sure. Some people change it every 3000 miles, but really you dont need to do that EVERY 3000 if your doing normal driving. Oil change places will tell you that to get you to come back in. To be safe, do it every 5-6 months with regular normal driving, and everytime you are going on a long trip. When you change the oil, refill and check all your other fluids too, like the radiator overflow, radiator, brake fluid, tranny fluid, windshield washer fluid, and check your tires for air. You are good to go !

  • I just had an oil change at a Suzuki dealer and had a question.?

It was a special price so I thought why not. I have a 2000 Suzuki Vitara 4WD with 65,000 miles. Ten minutes after I left the dealer my engine froze. I had it towed back to the dealer and they said I need a new engine. How is this possible since they just changed the oil. Never had any engine sounds or anything like that. They want $3,000 to install a new engine. Am I being taken for a ride or do engines just freeze up without warning?I just had an oil change at a Suzuki dealer and had a question.?Somebody ran it without oil in it. An engine doesn't freeze up without warning. It develops a knocking sound first.

Its Their fault.

Get a lawyer. And when you win make sure their not the ones that give you the new engine.I just had an oil change at a Suzuki dealer and had a question.?Sounds like you are being taken for a long ride ,Did they even put oil back in it? Engines do seize from time to time usually they do not have oil in them. Get a good lawyer.I just had an oil change at a Suzuki dealer and had a question.?always check your oil after you have it serviced at any lube shop or dealer. 99% of the time its gonna be right but that 1 time somebody forgets the oil plug costs a lot of money.

if your motor made horrible sounds and suddenly jerked to a halt yeah you need a motor. Because they forgot to put the oil plug back in and didn't check the oil after servicing. Not checking oil lvls is common at dealers the service guys know your motor requires 4.75 qts of oil with a new filter so to make things faster the just dump that much in it and pull it off the rack instead of cranking it for a minute to fill the oil filter then turning it off and waiting for the oil to settle and checking to be sure it's right.

Sooooo go check your oil. No that is not a normal thing to happen. it may still be dry or maybe they are trying to cover it up and put oil in it with a new plug but hey thats a brand new plug on my old car how did that get there. Nobody told me it needed a new plug. Most definately have it towed somewhere else and get a second opinion, and prolly a lawyer. so you can make them pay for the new motor your car is fixing to get.I just had an oil change at a Suzuki dealer and had a question.?special price indeed.....if it turns out the dealer unintentionally damaged your engine they are insured for this and they should make good on a claim...they probably want to keep thier franchizeI just had an oil change at a Suzuki dealer and had a question.?no you got burned

they left the oil out of your engine or didnt put the oil or drain plug tight

call your insurance or see if there is a consumer affairs

    that is state related

good luckI just had an oil change at a Suzuki dealer and had a question.?i agree with everyone , they forgot something. if you go to the dealer to check your car. check the oil yourself. if it is clear and clean they added oil to it because they forgot something and do not want to be the blame. with a car w/ 65k on it even after an oil change the oil will still look black after the motor has ran for a bit. but if you check it and it is clear and looks like new oil they are trying to cover their azz!!!I just had an oil change at a Suzuki dealer and had a question.?yes, yes, yes...check the color and condition of the new oil....it will change colors quickly if it has been circulated....but thats just a way to get physical proof...if your car had a problem that would cause it to lock up before they changed your oil (you get it done on time too right?), they would've told you about it

How long will my oil change last for? ?

I got an oil change today, and my receipt says semi-synthetic oil was used. For how many miles will my oil change last for? In case you need to know, Mobil oil was used and I have a 2003 Toyota Camry. I've read online that it will last anywhere from 5000 to 10000 miles. Thank you.How long will my oil change last for? ?Yuk,, it's semi-synthetic. That means you have no idea how much synthetic is actually mixed in with the gross oil. I would change it in 3,000 and go with full synthetic. Once you go full syn, then you can go every 7,500 miles between oil changes.. How long will my oil change last for? ?It has always been recommended to change the oil and filter every 10,000 miles. More often if off road or racing. How long will my oil change last for? ?I change mine every 3,000 miles. How long will my oil change last for? ?Depends on your driving. If you do a lot of stop and go or city driving do it every 3000. If you do a lot of highway driving (at highway speeds and not in bumper to bumper crawls) then you can go 5-6 thousand. (I do mostly highway and change every 5000 My car has 138,000 on it and it runs like new still)How long will my oil change last for? ?I never ever let mine oil change go over 3000 miles.

I'm not sure if you change your oil yourself, but if you do check the oil color when you change it. Around 10,000 miles I'm guessing it's going to be super black and pretty thick. When new oil goes in, it's a brownish-yellowish color and is pretty transparent. If it's thick and black like the oil at 10,000 miles, it's not going to lubricate your engine as well and it won't run as well.

If you're cheap ;) or just don't want to change it every 3,000 miles, I'd at LEAST do it every 5,000.How long will my oil change last for? ?I change mine twice a year. How long will my oil change last for? ?standard oil is 3000, synthetic blend is 5000 and full synthetic is 7000.How long will my oil change last for? ?Many different sources state that there is absolutely no advantage to changing your oil before 7500 miles. There are few exceptions to this guideline. One big one exception is keeping your manufacturer's warranty intact. If you don't change the oil as specified by the owner's manual you'll void your warranty. The other major exception is extreme driving conditions(i.e. extremely dusty conditions, constant stop and go city driving. Currently I change my oil every 5,000 miles as I am still under warranty. Once my warranty expires I will definitely revert to changing it every 7500 miles. How long will my oil change last for? ?It depends on the conditions you drive in. If you drive in dirty, dusty conditions a lot, you'll have to change it more frequently. I use Mobil 1 fully synthetic. They say that you can go about 6000 to 7000 miles, but I still change it between 4000 and 5000 miles. A good indicator is to pull out the dipstick and look at the oil. If it looks black, definately change it. If it still looks pretty clean, you're good. Conventional oil should be changed every 3000 miles or 3 months along with the filter. How long will my oil change last for? ?If you changed your oil, afterwards let the engine run for 2 months solid without moving the car a single foot, would you have to change your oil? Of course you would, and that's an example of why mileage is not a very good indicator of when to change your oil. Why do you change your oil? Because of fuel contamination in the oil, not because it %26quot;wears out%26quot;. When you cold start an engine, it has to run rich due to the cooler air intake. (dense air needs more fuel). The richer the mixture, more fuel contamination in the oil. If grandma starts her car up every day, drives one mile to church, shuts off, 1 hour later comes back, starts up and drives one mile home, she would need to change her oil very often (2k-3k miles as a guide) due to running her engine mostly on cold starts. If another person drives 100 miles down the highway every day back and forth to work, they could get by with an oil change at 7.5k to 10k miles, because they're always running the engine at operating temperature. (most efficient, less contamination). Everyone has to decide for themselves what conditions they operate their engines to decide on when to change the oil, and use mileages and factory recommendations only as a guide, not the bible.

By the way, ALL motor oil is synthetic. It's just to what extent the oil has been refined is what makes it more resistant to coking under extreme heat, and that's what makes it more expensive. Regular oil is fine unless you are racing or have a vehicle with a high-compression engine.

What do you do to make sure you are getting what you pay for?How many of you use an oil change service?Todvango ... No, I've not used Jiffy Lube more than a handful of times in my life. I have a regular mechanic who is:

?Competent (never have to return to correct or redo any work he does)

?Fair priced (half the hourly rate the dealership charges)

?Honest (brings you into the service bay to show you what's going on and the service bay is in full view of the waiting area.

It also helps to ask a question or two and have a clue as to what's going on so you can check the work that is done.

I once needed to have a tensioner changed, but couldn't go to my regular mechanic. After the work was done and my car returned to me, I started the engine, lifted the hood to take a look, and the new tensioner was not working at all; the serpentine belt flopped around all over the place. Fortunately I immediately caught that and they replaced it, of course.

As for Jiffy-Lube, I do NOT go there because:

    ?They're way over-priced

?They used to try that gimmick where they showed you the color of a lubricant on a white card to talk you into ordering service you didn't yet need.

?Unless you tell them otherwise, they take stuff apart, want to show you a slightly dusty filter, etc., to talk you into getting service you didn't ask for and may not even need.

?Their 3,000 mile oil change recommendation is a farce, I feel.

I say this because by Jiffy-Lube's standard, you'd be changing your oil twice as frequently as the dealership's recommended maximum oil change frequency. While I don't wait until the maximum, I don't panic when I've gone 3,000 miles on an oil change, either.

I often wondered to myself why the big disparity between Jiffy-Lube's recommended mileage limits and the recommendations of the auto manufacturers. So I visited the Jiffy-Lube web site on one occasion long ago. A big banner greeted me: %26quot;Change your oil every 3,000 miles,%26quot; but there was a footnote saying the 3,000 mile recommendation referred to heavy service vehicles such as those used in dusty locations, mostly stop-and-go traffic, very hot weather areas, and vehicles that tow trailers. Great, except later they just dropped the footnote and tried to make it seem you must change your oil every 3,000 miles. Sorry, but I'm not going for it.

Furthermore, they USED to boast about using Pennzoil, a brand I happen to like. Now, though, my local Jiffy-Lube charges extra for Pennzoil.

Yes, I've seen this video before on YouTube. Thanks for a great catch and service to us Answers members.

P.S. ?I should add this additional comment: Not all Jiffy-Lube outlets are dishonest. However, if the corporate headquarters unreasonably pressures their outlets to increase sales, this can only invite the corrupt practices reported in the investigative report.

Also, if they don't give the public the clear impression that the dishonesty is being promptly, firmly, and effectively dealt with, even their long-time customers are likely to walk away.

Making sure the name Jiffy-Lube is not associated with dishonest practices is crucial; it's also the only way to prevent the honest outlets from needlessly suffering too.

It's up to you, Jiffy-Lube.How many of you use an oil change service? There are some oil change places where you can actually look through a window in the lobby to see what they are doing.

Chevron's drive through oil change. How are their services?

I'm over due for an oil change and need fluids etc checked. anyone have experience with Chevron's drive through oil change? I want to make sure what is needed, is done. How are their services? Here I am, hopefully to give you some valuable advise. Take your car to any new car dealer or private mechanic for the services you're after. Fast oil change joints are nothing but %26quot;slip shod%26quot; jip shops! Too many horror service stories dribble out of places like that every day.

If you value your car have a real mechanic do your service work. It will not cost you one dime more to have a pro do it for you.Chevron's drive through oil change. How are their services?I'm not sure as I do my own car maintenance. I would suspect anywhere in the country you can get an oil change, tire rotation, and top all fluids off for 30 bucks or less. If you own a telephone, call a few local shops and ask.Chevron's drive through oil change. How are their services? They might charge you around 30 dollars for the oil change and they will check your fluids and tire pressure for free. They will also try to sell you a new air filter and cabin filter. I recommend buying one from Walmart and putting it in yourself. its easy. Depending on the mileage of your vehicle they will tell you your car needs a tire rotation, radiator flush, fuel system cleaning or what ever other service they offer.

Should i add Seafoam to a '94 geo prizm before an oil change?

    If so how long before?

What about adding to the crankcase?Should i add Seafoam to a '94 geo prizm before an oil change?Adding it to the oil IS adding it to the crankcase.

If you are going to do it, add 3-4 ounces to your oil probably 100-500 miles before your oil change. It'll be pretty diluted at that level so I wouldn't worry about it causing physical damage to your engine.

Why are you wanting to add seafoam? Is there a specific problem you're trying to cure? One thing you need to be aware of is that by cleaning sludge out of your engine you could be creating oil leaks. It is an old car and sludge may be essentially sealing up the last 14 years worth of oil leaks. Just a warning.

Another option you have is to add about 1/2 quart of automatic transmission fluid to the oil about 500 miles before an oil change. ATF has TONS of detergent in it and will clean out your motor's insides quite well.Should i add Seafoam to a '94 geo prizm before an oil change? That car is almost 14 years old, I would stay away from seafoam.

Once the warranty has expired, I would only respect authorities on the subject that give you actual test results from years of research to give any sort of credibility to their claim. What is his source for making the claims he makes? He may be right, but his credibility is zero in my eyes.

  • How much is regular maintenance (cost of tires, oil change, tune-up, brakes...etc) for an Audi A4?

I am in the market for a car and the Audi is catching my eye. Just trying to get as much numerical info as possible....please helpHow much is regular maintenance (cost of tires, oil change, tune-up, brakes...etc) for an Audi A4?Tires, depends on the brand, found mine for 250 for all 4.

Oil change will run you about 80

Major tune-ups are around 1000, water pump, belts ....

Brakes just cost me 200 for all pads and rotors

If you look online you can find most things relatively cheap. How much is regular maintenance (cost of tires, oil change, tune-up, brakes...etc) for an Audi A4?I bought an Audi A4 new in 2003 with the 1.8 turbo and manual transmission. Today I have 83,000 miles on and it is an absolute dream to drive. I had replaced the fuel pump under warranty at 23,000 and the water pump at 65,000 out of my pocket. I have all the service done at the dealership. You must use synthetic oil and an oil change at my dealer in Madison WI is $50.00 and that includes a car wash. I change it every 5,000 miles although I've read with synthetic many people go 10,000. I have two sets of tires and wheels. A set of snows for our beautiful Wisconsin winters and a set of performance tires for the summer. Spark plugs are due at 80,000 and a air and cabin filter at 30,000. I highly reccommend an A4 over a BMW as the fit and finish is superior and BMW's are way too common place for me. Plus the quattro drive system ensures four season safety and stability. Happy Trails!!

How much does it cost to get an oil change in england?

Any simple ballpark price will do, i have a friend who lives over there and was asking me, why... well, i dont actually know considering i live in the states, but she did, so yea...How much does it cost to get an oil change in england? That depends on where you go and what kind of car it is. It could be anywhere for $5 to $50. European imports and performance cars like a Corvette are more likely to cost more. If you buy cheap oil, it will cost less and so on. Someone I know drives a late 80s, early 90s Mercedes. He got the oil changed at the European Import dealership in town (Isringhausen) and it cost him almost $100! If you are really concerned about price, just do it yourself. It's not that hard.

Assuming that everything costs the same (comparatively), in England, it could cost 10 to 100 pounds as the pound is about twice as valuable as the dollar right now (1 dollar is about 0.54 pounds)How much does it cost to get an oil change in england?Around 30-50 although you may find it cheaper at some fixed price places. Labour is expensive at UK garages and we don't have many specialised oil changing garages link in the US.

Plus they seem to enjoy ripping people off.How much does it cost to get an oil change in england?well, tell her to go to an auto parts store (if its like not against the law to fix your own vehicle there or something) and ask them what kind of oil filter her car uses. Tell her to buy one and about 8 quarts of engine oil. Then have them explain to her how to change it herself. That is the cheapest way to get it done and with the types of cars they have in England its probably even cheaper over there.

with out it damaging the car?How often should you get an oil change? And is it ok to wait a few extra hundred miles with out it damaging? The lube place says 3000 miles. Your manual will say anything from 3000-5000 (sometimes even more!). Listen to the manual and purchase the correct type of oil.

If you drive down any dirt or gravel roads, then do it every 3K for sure.

It is very important that you have ENOUGH oil in the car and changing it every 3K helps with this if you are forgetful about checking it. As the car gets older, you may have to add oil before the 3K marker. How often should you get an oil change? And is it ok to wait a few extra hundred miles with out it damaging?well 3 months/3000 miles is the way to go......while you may not think a few extra hundred miles will hurt think about this

every 3000 miles oil chonges means you change your oil 20 times in 60,000 miles

every 3500 mile oil changes and at 60,000 you have only changed your oil only 17 times.....that is three missed oil changes and that much more wear on your engine.....

personally I change the oil in my vehicles every 2000-2500 miles....it may sound extreme but my vehicles commonly go 300,000-400,000 miles with very little problems!!!!How often should you get an oil change? And is it ok to wait a few extra hundred miles with out it damaging?don,t you worry about a thing....only going over a few 100 miles will not cause any problems,3000 miles is a general rule your motor will last a long time at the 3000 mile intreval.now synthetic motor oils can go a little longer say 5000 to 7000 but they cost much more and you have to have a really good oil filter to go that long.....enough said change it every 3000 miles give or take a few hundred and you will be good to go.How often should you get an oil change? And is it ok to wait a few extra hundred miles with out it damaging?I know people who change thier oil every 10,000 miles, some poeple do it every 3.000 miles

Oil does in fact last longer than 3,000 miles, but it is different for every car and every person. So they said 3,000 as a saftey number.

It depends on how you drive, how fast you oil wears out. If you don't have something like the GMOLS equipped on your car, i would just look at how bad your oil is when you change it... if it doesn't look too bad.. wait a little longer the next time. It'll be something you have to decide for yourself. How often should you get an oil change? And is it ok to wait a few extra hundred miles with out it damaging?depends on the age of the car as well as how you drive it.... more modern cars.. you can go somewhere between 3000-7000 miles and you'll be fine... especially with synthetic oil. Older cars... like before 1996... you should do it do it between 3000-5000 miles... you can go a couple more hundred miles before changing it but not too much... no more than 10000 because it does take a toll on the engine itself as well as the interior mechanics. How often should you get an oil change? And is it ok to wait a few extra hundred miles with out it damaging?I depends a bit on your driving habits, but generally if you use good oil, change the oil filter every time, and regularly service the air filter and don't drive on dirt roads, you can run 5 tp 7 thousand miles on an oil change. Under severe service (pulling a trailer, running hot, or other heavy duty use) you should stick with 3000 mile intervals. How often should you get an oil change? And is it ok to wait a few extra hundred miles with out it damaging?every 3000 miles or 3 months depending on the type of driving you do, highway vs city. Highway is less hard on the car then city. no it won't hurt if you go a bit over. I wouldn't neglect it for another 3000 miles but a few hundred is not going to hurt. just remember to pop the hood and check the level no matter how often you have it changed. How often should you get an oil change? And is it ok to wait a few extra hundred miles with out it damaging? The old standard was 3,000 miles or 6 months on traditional oil. If your car is a little older, say pre 2000, you should stick with that equation. Now days, newer cars and trucks can go 5,000 miles or 9 months. Even longer if its a synthetic oil! Although its more expensive. A few hundered miles isn't going to make or break your motor. But don't exceed 500 every time or it will begin to take its toll in the long run.How often should you get an oil change? And is it ok to wait a few extra hundred miles with out it damaging?Every 3000 miles. Yes its OK to exceed that number but still you have to check your dipstick once in a while and make sure the level of your oil is in between of those two dots. I replace mine every 4000 to 5000 miles but I keep monitoring the level of my oil because the heat of the engine consumes oil.How often should you get an oil change? And is it ok to wait a few extra hundred miles with out it damaging?every 3000 miles or every 3 months depending on how much you drive

driving without changing the oil wont hurt your car immediately, what happens is sediment and oil sludge builds up, slowing down performance and gas consumption, it could also damage the engine

you could go a long way without an oil change but its not recommendedHow often should you get an oil change? And is it ok to wait a few extra hundred miles with out it damaging?you spossed to do it every 300 miles, you pry shouldn't wait cause of you do, that will cause friction in your car engine and possibly an exlosion, or a damaged engine. How often should you get an oil change? And is it ok to wait a few extra hundred miles with out it damaging?they use to say 6000 miles

    now they say 3000 miles

i usually go over a few hundred miles and never had problems but i guess it's possible to damage. it also depends on your driving habits. How often should you get an oil change? And is it ok to wait a few extra hundred miles with out it damaging?normally 3mos. or 3,000miles. generally if you wait, you should carry a qt. of oil in your car and anti-freeze especially if you have a leak or you have been experiencing hot or cold weather. How often should you get an oil change? And is it ok to wait a few extra hundred miles with out it damaging? From what I've heard, recent reports say it is ok to wait a few hundred miles passed the change date. They could not tell a different performance wise. I would say don't go past three months. How often should you get an oil change? And is it ok to wait a few extra hundred miles with out it damaging?Every three thousand miles, that's what the manufactures recommend. No a few hundred miles more or less will not make a difference. How often should you get an oil change? And is it ok to wait a few extra hundred miles with out it damaging?they say every 3 months or 3000 miles but years ago it was double that. i think they just changed the advice to sell more oil. and no, a few extra miles before you get the oil change will not hurt the car.How often should you get an oil change? And is it ok to wait a few extra hundred miles with out it damaging? No. You should not let it go a few hundred miles,it could really damage your car!How often should you get an oil change? And is it ok to wait a few extra hundred miles with out it damaging?every 3 months or 3000 miles. as long as your not ruff with the car and u check the oil. you will be ok for a few hundred miles. How often should you get an oil change? And is it ok to wait a few extra hundred miles with out it damaging?3100-3300 you should be ok but going 3900 ish may become a issue if you do it repetaly over the life of the engine

goodluckHow often should you get an oil change? And is it ok to wait a few extra hundred miles with out it damaging?about 3 thousand milesHow often should you get an oil change? And is it ok to wait a few extra hundred miles with out it damaging? At least every 3000 miles. Yes it is OK.How often should you get an oil change? And is it ok to wait a few extra hundred miles with out it damaging?@ 3000 some synthetic oils can go farther, just keep it close to 3K and you'll be fineHow often should you get an oil change? And is it ok to wait a few extra hundred miles with out it damaging?it's better not to wait more than 10000km

What is a good analogy for an oil change.?

I have to give a speech on how to change your own oil. We have to have a metaphor or analogy to go along with the speech. The metaphor is supposed to help the audience understand an oil change. I am having trouble coming up with ideas. Any help would be greatly appreciated. What is a good analogy for an oil change.?as in people drinking water. out with the fouled water and in with new water to keep the body working in its best condition. replace old fluids to keep the parts working efficiently.

  • What all does it take to open my own oil change business?

Can I get any grants and How can I get the products for the shop? What all does it take to open my own oil change business?Pay $900 to rent a shop in a local shopping center.

Don't hire any employees until you see how successful you are.

It is not too expensive. You would not even have to own a %26quot;lift%26quot;. Just dig a pit where you can stand under the cars.

YOu will need lots of bottles of oil and a big bucket to drain the old oil. Not much more. You don't even need a cash register to get started.

You can buy your products from a local store. Later, you can order directly from Valvoline and Castrol. Wait until you need large quantities.

Introduce yourself to the local office of the US Dept of Environmental Quality. There are not too many restrictions on you. They worry that you won't dump the oil into the ground. You won't do that. You can prove it to them by providing receipts from the local recyclers.

You can apply at City Hall for help. They have programs to help new businesses get started. They will give you lots of money if you will open in one of the undeveloped parts of the city. There are no grants. What all does it take to open my own oil change business? You'll need a sizable nest egg of your own money. This isn't something you can do on a shoe string. Grants aren't a viable option.

How do I remove the lower part of the fairing on my 2006 kawasaki ninja zx-6r 636 to do an oil change?

Is there a special tool needed to remove the plastic pop screws on the very bottom of the fairing? How do I remove the lower part of the fairing on my 2006 kawasaki ninja zx-6r 636 to do an oil change? On my 08 there is nothing that you need to remove (except the oil plug and filter) to change the oil. Everything is exposed enough to change the oil w/o taking the plastics off. But as you are asking the configuration on your 06 must be a little different. As far as I know there is no %26quot;special%26quot; tool needed to remove the little snap screws that hold the 2 fairings together at the bottom. I have basically taken my whole bike apart with just the tool kit that came with it. Just pop the little plastic screws out. They shouldnt break but if one does just go to your local Kawasaki dealer and pick up some more. You usually can buy bags of 10 for a couple of bucks.

How often should I get an oil change?

I am planning to buy a used red 1998 Ford Mustang in case that helpsHow often should I get an oil change?once a weekHow often should I get an oil change?reg oil 3K synthetic 7500How often should I get an oil change?regular oil 2500~3000 miles

    full synthetic 3500~4500 miles

it doesn't matter what kind of car or engine...you change your oil when it's needed to be changed when it's dirty (check dip stick) or when the mileage is met

remember to change your oil filter with each oil change as wellHow often should I get an oil change? It depends on the nature of the driving, time and type of oil.

Some oils are designed for 3000 miles while others are for 7000 and yet others 15000 miles.

If you use regular oil, 3000 miles is the norm. 5000 miles is the upper limit as far as I am consumed.

Then there is time, oil additives break down with time also, I change the oil if it has been in the car for six months regardless of mileage. Unless it is synthetic, in which if it is over a year old I replace it, at least before starting.

One thing that you have not asked is about the filter. A lot of cars are using smaller filters now. While the oil may still be good the filter may be past the limits of its life and be plugged. Even with 15000 mile oil, I change the filter every 3 to 5 K depending on how the oil looks. How often should I get an oil change? Not to dodge your question but in 1998 Ford recommended 5,000 mile oil changes.

Here's what I've done in the past with my Sable and Taurus which both call for 5W-30. I suspect your Mustang also calls for the same viscosity grade oil. These two cars are my town and winter beaters so they see very few sustained high speed hot trip driving. I change the regular mineral oil every 3,500 - 4,000 miles. If you chose to use something like full synthetic Mobil1 you could very safely stretch the mileage to the maximum factory 5,000 mile recommendation.

Forget partial or semi-synthetic motor oil. No oil company tells the public the exact % of synthetic oil that's in the can. Use name brands such as Mobil, Havoline, Quaker State, Valvoline, Motorcraft and Brad Penn. Use the following oil filters: Motorcraft, (made by Purolator) Wix, AC-Delco, Purolator. NAPA (made by Wix) or Carquest's best (made by Wix).

Question about oil change for a Honda Motorcycle?

But does anyone know or have the manual for how much its supposed to take.Question about oil change for a Honda Motorcycle? Here dude...dont take the word of someone who DOESNT have a manual....just use this link and upload the service manual and find out what it takes.

Also, it probably has an overflow valve or something to let access oil out. so don't go over 24-26 ounces.

If you know somebody that can do an oil change on your car how much will with oil cost?

I have a friend that is willing to change my oil on my car. If I go buy the oil about how much is it going to cost? Also they said they would change my oil for free but I want to give him some money for doing so. How much do you suggest? I have an 03 Chevy Cavalier. If you know somebody that can do an oil change on your car how much will with oil cost?most any place can do it for 20 bucks or about even you at home no shop makes money on oil changes oil change is something anyone can do at home for 20 bucksIf you know somebody that can do an oil change on your car how much will with oil cost? You can go to wal-mart and get a 5 quart bottle of oil for 10 bucks. If you know somebody that can do an oil change on your car how much will with oil cost?If the labor is free it will cost about $14 - $16 dollars if you use cheap oil and a cheap oil filter. It's exactly why I never do it myself. Takes me twice as long to do it as at a quick change place and I've got to bring the old oil somewhere to be recycled when I'm done and I've only saved four or five bucks. If you know somebody that can do an oil change on your car how much will with oil cost? You need a new filter also $5-$8. Now you are at $15 - $18. I would go to oil change shop for $20 and they check other fluids, filters and tires too.If you know somebody that can do an oil change on your car how much will with oil cost?I payed around $40 dollars at jiffy lube. I live in Canada. I usually do it myself, I buy the oil and filter for free(Canadian Tire money) and discard the old oil at the same place called Canadian Tire(aka crappy tire).

  • Engine check light came on after oil change?

I have a 2002 chevy malibu, the light came on after I got my oil change, but did not notice it until I got home. I took it back to Walmart (where I got the oil change), but they were already closed. I've read from a few sources that I maybe just need to reset it, but I don't have the manual. Does anybody know how to reset or have any other ideas on why the light is turned on?Engine check light came on after oil change?the best and easiest way is to take it to auto zone or advance and let them clear it off with their scanner,it only takes a minute to do,and this way it will stay off, until the next time,or it gets a bad sensor on it,good luck with it.Engine check light came on after oil change?id wait and see if it came on again, then deal with it.good luck.

Engine check light came on after oil change?Hopefully you've checked your oil.

I've heard of people who take their cars in for an oil change, and the mechanic only remembered to drain the crankcase, but forgot to put in any oil.

If your check engine light was on before the oil change, I'm sure the mechanic didn't think to turn it off. You'll have to tell them if you want the service engine light to be cancelled.

.Engine check light came on after oil change?hi there to reset it disconect the battery for about 5 mins... then reconect and it should go off.

People say 30 sec but from experiance of gmc .. and others wait 5mins or longer.

Also the most comon cause of the light coming on is ... your fuel cap isnt on correctly or tight. Takeit off put it back on.

Now if the light comes back on take your car to autozone or advanced auto parts and have them read the codes.. they will use a computer that reads the cars computer to tell yo whats wrong.Engine check light came on after oil change?I would bet that the tech forgot to plug the AIT sensor back up after checking air filter. look under hood along the air intake from air filter to throttle body and look for a sensor that is unplugged.Engine check light came on after oil change? It will turn off on it's own...IF...

If there is nothing wrong with the car, after a set number of engine cycles (that is, starting the engine a certain number of times, usually 20 or so on a Chevy) it will turn off.

You have a bigger problem, though. You need to know why it came on, and if the monkeys at Wal-Mart are responsible. Take it to an auto parts chain, like Advance Auto. They will read the computer code for you and tell you what it is. Make sure that if it's a serious issue, they leave the engine light on instead of 'clearing' the code. Take it back to Wal-Mart and talk to the manager about it, regardless of the code.

AND FOR CHRIST SAKE-STOP USING WAL-MART FOR YOUR CAR! These idiots are in bussiness making money byselling cheap crap that breaks. Is this who you want fixing your car?

Good luck.Engine check light came on after oil change?Check the oil level to make sure they didn't put too much or not enough in it. Make sure you check it with the engine turned off, and wipe the stick once first then put it in and take it out a second time to get an accurate reading.

If it is just the oil change light, then you can turn the car to %26quot;ON%26quot;, but DO NOT START the car. Press the gas pedal three times to the floor all the way (within 5 seconds of turning the ignition to %26quot;ON%26quot;) now wait five more seconds, then start the car. Wait a few seconds (up to 30) after you turn the car on to see if it goes out. If this doesn't do it, you can take your car to your local auto parts store, and have plug their code checker tool into the OBD2 plug under the dashboard. They can tell you if it is a serious problem, or something small. Plus they can reset it using that tool. Hope this helps.

Good luck!Engine check light came on after oil change? It needs to be reset by turning the car to the on position but don't start the car and press either the gas or break pedal 6to7 times within 10 seconds. Try that and the light should go out.Engine check light came on after oil change?there are a few things u can do.

    1. check oil and call the manager at the wal-mart where u got the oil change.

    2. when car is off, open the gas tank and remove the cap then replace and start car. see if this trick works.

3rd, turn the key to the on postion 3-5 times to reset.Engine check light came on after oil change?if your sure its the check engine light, they probably did a quick inspection on you car for maintinece recomendations.

in this process they may have left a sensor unplugged. a couple that pop up in my head is mass air flow sensor.

its behind the air box in the rubber tube leading to the engine.

but anytime that a code comes on there is a problem of some sorts and walmart lube techs arent the elite. take it to a gm dealer to have looked at.Engine check light came on after oil change? We should all install hidden cameras! Take a look!

Also, how much does Wal-Mart stores usually charge for an oil change if I decide to get it done there? An oil change is due on my 01' Honda Accord LX that's coming up to 75,000 miles on it?i prefer the straight oil that is not multi viscosity.. a straight 30 or straight 40 weight.. also change the filter .. do it yourself and save and know its done right.. http://www.ehow.com/video_11_change-moto

And, I don't have to worry about my drain plug not being properly tightened. An oil change is due on my 01' Honda Accord LX that's coming up to 75,000 miles on it?Look for a service center that is using a synthetic blend motor oil for their standard oil change price. Ford Motorcraft is doing that now for about $25. Then you won't need another oil change for 7,000 miles.

How many mile do you go over your scheduled oil change?

I just realized Im over by 60 miles, is this doing damage to my car? Im going this Fri. to get it done. Thanks!!!How many mile do you go over your scheduled oil change? If you're over by just 60 miles, you have nothing to worry about. The maintenance schedule is not an absolute number. How many mile do you go over your scheduled oil change?the recomended interval is 3000 miles or every 3 months.but then again that is only a recommendation.it depends on how well you wish to maintain your car.if you are consistently over switch to synthetic and change every 5000-7500 miles depending on where you live and how you drive.also maintain your air filter.a clogged air filter will cost you in gas.60 miles over is nothing.i see them in my shop all the time anywhere from 1000-10,000 miles over.just remember proper maintenance of your car will not only save you money at the pump but will also help prevent those pain in the butt breakdowns which always occur at the most inconveniant times. How many mile do you go over your scheduled oil change?Yer ok. I haven't changed oil in over a year. Oil is a lubricant. It does break down eventually, but it still lubricates, just not as efectively as original. as long as it is full, then that is the main thing to worry about. The oil splashes up from the bottom of the engine and lubricates all of the necessary components. If it is low, it will not splash up and lubricate, thus a blown engine. Don't get me wrong, I do advocate regular maintenance of a vehicle, but I think some people make too big of a thing about it.How many mile do you go over your scheduled oil change? You will be ok. I use Mobil 1 and change at 5,000 miles.

Dateline NBC tested 10 NY Taxi`s and found that the oil lasted until about the 7500 mile mark!

Unfortunately, there are market forces that have a vested interest in convincing vehicle owners to change their oil more often than necessary. The legal prey of these market forces have become convinced that they are purchasing %26quot;cheap insurance%26quot; or %26quot;peace of mind%26quot; by changing their oil more often than necessary. Complicating things is the fact that doing oil changes is one of the few do-it-yourself maintenance tasks that is still within the ability of the backyard mechanic to perform.

    The 3000 mile oil change interval has been pounded into people's heads for decades. It had a scientific basis when engines used non-multi-weight, non-detergent oil. It no longer has any scientific basis, but it is still being promoted by certain entities, most notably the oil change industry in the United States. This myth is also sometimes known as the %26quot;Cheap Insurance Myth.%26quot;

    The 3000 Mile Fact

There are still vehicles that need 3K oil changes, but it's not because the oil goes bad after 3K miles. One example is the Saturn S series. These vehicles have a timing chain system that is very sensitive to clean oil because oil pressure is used as hydraulic fluid to ratchet up the timing chain tensioner. If varnish forms in the timing chain tensioner bore then this system can fail and the chain will become loose and eventually break. Dealers have gone as far as tearing out the normal service schedule (6000 miles) and leaving only the severe service schedule. If your engine is destroyed (under warranty) by a failed timing chain then the dealer will legitimately request evidence of oil changes. Unfortunately this problem usually won't manifest itself during the warranty period.

    The Dark Oil Myth

Dark oil does not indicate the need for an oil change. The way modern detergent motor oil works is that minute particles of soot are suspended in the oil. These minute particles pose no danger to your engine, but they cause the oil to darken. A non-detergent oil would stay clearer than a detergent oil because all the soot would be left on the internal engine parts and would create sludge. If you never changed your oil, eventually the oil would no longer be able to suspend any more particles in the oil and sludge would form. Fortunately, by following the manufacturer's recommended oil change interval, you are changing your oil long before the oil has become saturated. Remember, a good oil should get dirty as it does it's work cleaning out the engine. The dispersant should stop all the gunk from depositing in the oil pan.

The only real way to determine whether oil is truly in need of changing is to have an oil analysis performed. Since most people don't want to bother with this, it's acceptable to err heavily on the safe side and simply follow the manufacturer's recommended change interval for severe service. There are still a few cars that specify 3K intervals for severe service, but not many. If you look at countries other than the U.S., the oil recommended change interval is much higher than even the normal interval specified by vehicle manufacturers in the U.S.

    Filter Change Interval

Back in the days of 3000 mile oil changes many manufacturers recommended filter changes only half as often because the filter did not become clogged with dirt at only 3000 miles. This was good advice back then, especially because with non-detergent motor oils a lot of the sludge remained stuck to internal engine parts rather than being carried in the oil to the filter. Nowadays the filter should be changed at every oil change.

Quick-Lube (and dealer) Problems to Watch Out For

    1. SAE30 oil. Some quick-lube places have been known to offer advertised specials that use SAE 30 oil, as opposed to 5W30 or 10W30. Pay the extra for the proper oil, or better yet avoid merchants that try to pull this kind of thing because it's an indicator that they are less than honest.

    2. Trying to use the wrong oil because it's what they have in bulk. Insist on the oil that is specified on your filler cap and in your manual.

    3. Pumping the oil out through the dipstick hole instead of removing the drain plug. I came across this gem when I asked if I needed to bring my own copper drain plug gasket. They said that they didn't remove the drain plug to drain the old oil. This was the Oil Changer location at Kifer %26amp; Wolfe in Sunnyvale, California. Pumping the oil out through the dipstick hole is a terrible way to get the old oil out because it leaves a lot of junk in the bottom of the oil pan. This was a long time ago and maybe they've changed their ways since then.

    4. Selling unneeded and overpriced services such as engine flushes.

    5. Selling overpriced, and often low quality, parts such as wiper blades and washer fluid, PCV valves, thermostats, etc. Never let a quick-lube place do any mechanical work on your vehicle.. They do no use journeyman mechanics.

    6. Using poor quality filters. You really want to bring your own filter, from the dealer, with you when you go to a quick-lube place. They may take $1 or $2 off the price if you do this but don't count on it.

    7. If you have a vehicle that actually still has Zerk fittings to lubricate then be sure that they actually lubricate these fitting. Most cars no longer require lubrication but some trucks still do.

    8. Do not let a quick-lube place change or add any fluids other than oil. No transmission fluid, no brake fluid, no power steering fluid, no antifreeze, no oil additives, no fuel additives. It is just too easy for them to use the wrong fluid and cause permanent damage to your vehicle.

For some horror stories about Jiffy Lube see: http://www.consumeraffairs.com/automotiv . I think I'll pass on them!

Virtually all new passenger vehicles sold in the U.S. use either 5W30 or 10W30 oil. The difference between the two is that the 5W30 flows better when cold, so if you live in a cold climate or operate your vehicle in a cold climate during the winter months, you should use 5W30 if it is the preferred oil for your vehicle. If you live in a sub-tropical climate and don't operate your vehicle in cold climates, then 10W30 is acceptable as long as the manufacturer specifies that it is permissible to use it.

Synthetic oil was originally developed for high performance racing engines. Mobil tried to popularize synthetic oil for passenger vehicles back in the early 1970's. At the time, Mobil was promoting 20K or 25K oil changes with synthetic, but they soon backed down from this. Synthetic oil is a good choice if you have a vehicle with a high performance engine (in fact synthetic is required for many of these engines). It is also a good choice if your vehicle is operated in extremely cold climates. It has higher resistance to breakdown caused by heat and it flows better in extreme cold. Unfortunately for the synthetic oil industry there is virtually no advantage to using synthetic oil in a non-high performance engine that is operated in moderate climates. You probably could go a bit longer between oil changes with a synthetic, i.e. following the normal service schedule even if you fall into the severe service category, but I wouldn't advise this. In short, synthetic may give you the peace of mind of knowing that you are using an oil that is far better than necessary for your vehicle, but it won't reduce wear or extend the life of the engine. The mistake some people make it to wrongly extrapolate these benefits onto normal engines operated in mild climates, with the ultimate lack of any knowledge being manifested with statements such as %26quot;synthetics provide 'Peace of Mind,' or 'Cheap Insurance,'%26quot; or other such nonsense. How often is it necessary to get your car in for an oil change?i do 3 months or by mileage when i travel farHow often is it necessary to get your car in for an oil change?i change mine every 3,000 miles if i can. sometimes i run broke and can't do it until 4,000 miles though. How often is it necessary to get your car in for an oil change?when u car stops working than good iead to do oil chabnge How often is it necessary to get your car in for an oil change?I have an 'Oil Life' setting on my car that tells me when it's time to change it.
