Possible to change oil filter without changing oil?

I have a Toyota Camry 1989. It is leaking oil so I put about a quart in every month. The oil is therefore pretty clean, but it's time to change the filter. Is it possible to change the filter without draining the oil? How? (I'm assuming it's not too hard to change oil...)

Also, would it be bad to drain the oil, change the filter, and put the oil back in again?Possible to change oil filter without changing oil?Do the full oil change. If you change just the filter you'll make a huge mess and lose a lot of your oil anyway.

Read the car manual to find out how much oil and what kind you need and buy that much and an oil pan and bucket and oil filter at the store.

Get out the wrenches, roll of paper towels, and all the other stuff you just bought. Take off the top oil cap (where you normally put in oil), put the oil pan under the car where the screw is for the oil and then loosen it and then hand undo the rest (watch out for the washer - don't let it drop!) and let it drain into the pan (this will take a few minutes.) Meanwhile use paper towels to wipe off the screw and washer. Set aside. Once it's drained, reach up under to where the oil filter is and undo this (this could be a little messy even with it drained) - you may need a special oil filter wrench to loosen this. Dispose of this. Put the screw and washer back in TIGHTLY. Get the new oil filter, put a thin coating of oil along the top where it screws in (use your finger to put this oil on) and then put it on where the old one came off of and screw it on as tight as you can. (You can use the wrench to make it tighter if you want.) Now you just add the new oil to the top. (Put in as much as your manual says to.) Run the car, and check the level to make sure it's okay. Add if needed.

Voila! Oil changed.

Empty the oil pan into the bucket and take it to some place that recycles it.Possible to change oil filter without changing oil?The oil can be changed without changing the oil. Be sure to check the oil level after changing the filter and starting the car. Since you're going to have to get under the car to do this, you might as well just drain the oil from the engine and do the job right with a full oil change%26gt;Possible to change oil filter without changing oil?It would be advised that you do both. The filter catches the bad or dirty particles in the oil but it doesnt do it all. Also you may want to replace the pan and gasket if thats where the leak is coming from. With the car almost 20 yrs old, that gasket is probably worn outPossible to change oil filter without changing oil? You're going to have a big mess and waist a lot of your good oil if you pull the filter without draining it first.

You can reuse the same oil if you make sure your drain pan is clean and no debris falls into it while you're down there removing the drain plug.Possible to change oil filter without changing oil?If you wish a new filter just remove the existing one and put on the new one. There will be some oil loss when you take off the filter, only a small amount, so have something to catch it, a large rag will do. You will need to add one quart of oil after the new filter is installed.Possible to change oil filter without changing oil?You do not need to drain the oil to change the filter. Just replace the filter, start the engine let it idle for a moment, shut it off and add oil to the high mark on the dipstick.Possible to change oil filter without changing oil?Absolutely! I learned this back in the mid 60's. I drove a company truck (Chevrolet) for an older gentleman who NEVER changed oil. We put a LOT of miles on these trucks and ended with over 200,000miles.

He said that the oil doesn't break down, it just needs to be cleaned. We would change the filter (the oil was black), add the new filter and a quart of oil. After driving 2/300 miles you could pull the dipstick and the oil would be as clean as new oil from the can.

  • How often do I need to change the oil in my 2009 Kia spectra? Is it 3 months or 3,000 miles, or is it 7500 mi?

I just need to know if I need an oil change right now. I changed the oil once at 3000 miles but now I'm at 6500 and I want to know if I need to change it now or if I'd just be throwing my money away. I know some cars are rated for 3000 miles and some for 7500 so I just wanted to know which mine is.How often do I need to change the oil in my 2009 Kia spectra? Is it 3 months or 3,000 miles, or is it 7500 mi?I grew up with the understanding that you should change your oil every 3 months or 3,000 miles.

These days, however, with the more modern vehicles and better oil formulas, it is more like every 5,000 to 7,500 miles. Most vehicle computers are programmed to let you know when it is time, depending on driving habits and conditions. Check your owners manual to see when yours is recommended. How often do I need to change the oil in my 2009 Kia spectra? Is it 3 months or 3,000 miles, or is it 7500 mi?The information is in the back of your owners manual under Maintenance. I went to the Kia website and pulled up the owners manual for your vehicle but the maintenance intervals were in metric units. It said that you change the oil every 6,000 Km which works out to 3728miles or 6 months. You need to look it up in the back of your owners manual and follow that religiously while the vehicle is under warranty because if something happens to the engine and you didn't have the oil changed at the proper intervals they may tell you they aren't going to pay.How often do I need to change the oil in my 2009 Kia spectra? How do you reset the oil change needed light on a Toyota RAV4?

I changed my own oil but it doesn't tell you how to reset the light which is supposed to tell you an oil change is needed. Nothing in book and dealer says to bring it in.How do you reset the oil change needed light on a Toyota RAV4?1.With the car started (ignition on), set the LCD odometer readout to total mileage (not trip A or B).

2.Turn the car off (ignition key to the OFF position).

3.Push in AND HOLD the button/knob that switches the odometer

4.Turn key to ON position without starting the car. You will notice the maintenance light blink and go out.

    5.Release the odometer button/knob.

    6.Turn key to OFF position.

7.That's it! The %26quot;MAINT REQD%26quot; light has been reset to warn you to change your oil in another 5,000 or 7,500 miles or soHow do you reset the oil change needed light on a Toyota RAV4?Yea, the dealer probably has to scan the computer and tell it there has been an oil change. That's the problem with those dummie lights and new technology. You can't do anything yourself anymore without a computer tellin you what or how to do somthing. How do you reset the oil change needed light on a Toyota RAV4?At 4500 miles since last reset, the Maint Reqd light will blink at you on startup (very easy to miss seeing it). At 5000 miles since last reset, the Maint Reqd light will stay on solid.

It's just a reminder by miles that you are due for the next scheduled maintenance. It is not smart (doesn't go by time, or do any oil analysis), just a mile counter. Usually that is an oil change/tire rotation: http://smg.toyotapartsandservice.com/

Should your dealer forget to reset it, or you go to an independent mechanic or DIY, you can reset the light yourself.

On pages 122-123 of the US 2004 Prius Owner's Manual (Section 2-5 %26quot;Operation of Instruments and Controls: Gauges, Meters and Service Reminder Indicators%26quot;, item (j) in the %26quot;Service reminder indicators and warning buzzers%26quot; section), is a description of the Maint Reqd light and instructions for turning it off. It should be in a similar section in your RAV4's owner's manual.

Usually it is a button dance involving the odometer reset button.

How do you change oil in 2000 Kia Sephia?

How harmful to the engine would it be to change from synthetic to regular motor oil?

I have a 2005 Nissan Altima 2.5S with 26k on it and got it brand new. I've been putting in synthetic oil (Mobil 1 5W-30) since my first oil change. I'm thinking about selling the car and need to know if have to tell the next owner if they have to put synthetic oil in.How harmful to the engine would it be to change from synthetic to regular motor oil?no you dont have to tell tehm anything. you can tell them you always have used synthetic and how often you changed it...may make a good selling point, as synthetics are supposd to be better for the engine, and changing back wont hurt it...How harmful to the engine would it be to change from synthetic to regular motor oil?I did it with my Ford ranger after 120k miles and noticed no difference. But I would tell the new owner. How harmful to the engine would it be to change from synthetic to regular motor oil?No, it won't hurt it at all.How harmful to the engine would it be to change from synthetic to regular motor oil?you can do it, but will have to change the oil more oftenHow harmful to the engine would it be to change from synthetic to regular motor oil?For starters, you should NEVER start a car on synthetic motor oil. You have to give the engine enough time to %26quot;break in%26quot; so the valves and rings will seal properly. If you did your first oil change at 3,000 miles, you're probably OK, but you're really better off waiting until 10,000 miles on a new car to switch to synthetic. Secondly, switching from synthetic to regular motor oil won't harm the engine, so don't bother telling the new buyer that he/she should run synthetic motor oil in it. It really doesn't matter either way. While it is true that you will generally have less engine wear running full synthetic motor oil over time, as long as you change your oil regularly you'll be fine. How harmful to the engine would it be to change from synthetic to regular motor oil? What does the owners manual call for ?How harmful to the engine would it be to change from synthetic to regular motor oil?No unless the motor requires synthetic it will not harm it at all. It is only when the car is old and you are going from conventional to synthetic that there is an issue. How harmful to the engine would it be to change from synthetic to regular motor oil?26k is low miles , if you been running synthetic thats good the next owner will glad to hear that , good selling point i put synthetic in my porsche , and so will my future ferrari ....How harmful to the engine would it be to change from synthetic to regular motor oil?yes i would tell them because that will help you sell the car but you dont need to because it dont matter what type oil you put in it and someone said need to change it more not true you wont need to change it as much the other guy said wait until break in there is no break in on cars today that is done when they build the car it is great that you have used this oil that long the car will last much longer

How often should I have my car maintenanced (oil change)? Can I just add more oil without having to change it?

I have a 2002 Odyssey and the manual says to replace the engine oil every 7,500 miles or every year.

The place where I bought the car where I do the maintenance, says to replace the oil every 3,000 miles or every 3 months.

Now I do not drive much. In eleven months, I drove 1,687 miles (an average of 35 miles a week).

I did the last maintenance last August and was supposed to do the next one last November but I did not because I drove only 500 miles in those 3 months.

Now, I just checked the oil level (first time in my lifeou would have been there, you would have laugh at me.) and the level is just under the lower mark.

Should I just add more oil (how much, what kind?) or do I have to have my car maintenanced so they can change the oil (after I drove 1,687 miles since my last maintenance).

Thank you in advance for any advice you may have for me.How often should I have my car maintenanced (oil change)? Can I just add more oil without having to change it?Go with the manual and replace the oil once a year if you don't drive over 7,500 miles, The 3000 mile oil change interval are ingrained in a lot of peoples minds from the days of sloppy V8 engines that had very poor machining tolerances. In Europe Honda recommends 15,000 km change interval thats nearly 10,000 miles. Yes you can add any brand of oil check the manual for viscosity, probably 5W30. Don't overfill over the full mark. How often should I have my car maintenanced (oil change)? Can I just add more oil without having to change it?Follow the owners manual to be sure you don't void any warranties.

%26quot;replace the engine oil every 7,500 miles or every year%26quot; ... that should fine.

Just make sure you insist on high quality synthetic motor oil and use only the SAE weight that is recommended in your owner's manual.

Check your oil levels at least once a month. Don't let oil levels go low but take care not to overfill. Usually one quart is all it takes to get from the low mark back to centerline. How often should I have my car maintenanced (oil change)? Can I just add more oil without having to change it?yea you should change it like every 3000 miles because its just good for the engine. you dont need to run it too push it too far past thatHow often should I have my car maintenanced (oil change)? Can I just add more oil without having to change it?change the oil every 7500 if you have a leak in between the oil changes add oil but get the leak checked out. your engine needs a new filter and oil every 7500How often should I have my car maintenanced (oil change)? Can I just add more oil without having to change it?Oil is designed to reduce friction from sand and dirt. The more friction, the more wear and tear inside of the engine. Running on low oil or dirty oil causes more friction. It's like running sandpaper on the inside of your engine. Replace it every 3000 miles.

Old, stale oil is also hard on an engine because it is corrosive. Chane the oil and check it frequently - its the main ingredient that keeps a car alive. How often should I have my car maintenanced (oil change)? Can I just add more oil without having to change it?depending on how and where you drive and what kind of oil you use they are bright 3000 miles is good or about four times a yr something you can remember summer winter spring and fallHow often should I have my car maintenanced (oil change)? Can I just add more oil without having to change it?Since you dont seem to drive the car that much, I wouldn't worry about changing the oil until it turned black. (This means the oil is starting to lose its protective qualities. As for how much, if it is at the lower mark of your dipstick, your probably about a quart low. The best advice is to pour a little in then keep checking the oil til it gets to the full mark. Allow a couple of minutes for the oil to drain down. MOST importantly, you DO NOT want to overfill. How often should I have my car maintenanced (oil change)? Can I just add more oil without having to change it?Follow the owner's manual. At the very least, you need to change the oil and filter once a year. As oil ages, heats up and cools, it builds up sludge. The sludge will block the circulation of the oil in the engine and cause engine failure.

To replace your engine will cost you $1,500 - $2,000 or more so it's best to fork out a little for an oil change. 7500 miles sounds high to me. The owner's manual shows 3,600 to 7,200 miles depending on driving conditions. I'd go more like every 4,000 miles or once a year. How often should I have my car maintenanced (oil change)? Can I just add more oil without having to change it?Do what the manual says!

The oil companies used to say change oil every 3000 miles, but that is old School because Oils are much much better these days, AND there is a push now for oil conservation. There is NO need for Synthetic oils. they cost 3 times as much as regular oil anyway!

Your mechanic wants to see you every 3000 miles so he can make more money!

Dateline NBC did an actual road test on NYC taxicabs to see how long it took for the oil to go bad...It was 7500 miles!!!!How often should I have my car maintenanced (oil change)? Can I just add more oil without having to change it?With the mileage you are doing an annual oil change will be fine, but dont stop there , have all the servicing schedule seen to, cars deteriorate with age as well as miles. Do this and a car like your honda should give you years of good service. How often should I have my car maintenanced (oil change)? Can I just add more oil without having to change it?every 3,000 milesHow often should I have my car maintenanced (oil change)? Can I just add more oil without having to change it?Every 3,000 miles or three months is the generally accepted oil change maintenance time. Some oils will alow you 7,500, and some synthetics can even give you 25,000 miles. Even if you only drive 500 miles in three months, the oil should still be changed because the chemicals and additives that protect your engine break down and no longer perform the way they should.

  • How often should I change my engine oil?

I have a 2005 Hyundai Tucson Diesel SUV. I drive maybe about 1000 miles per year (not a month, year). How often should I change the engine oil? The car sits unused for a couple of weeks at a time. I use it primarily to go shopping and the very odd trip out with the family.

Thanks. How often should I change my engine oil?Well once or twice a year will be okay for your car even though you dont reach the mileage for regular routine service. It is important to change it regularly even though your not using it that much. I myself have a lots of cars that im not using as my regular commute car, but i see to it, they are being check by a mechanic regularly, do the change oil and oil filter. to make my engine last longer. Hope my answer helps! How often should I change my engine oil?Twice a-year with filter. Use top grade oil too. 10-40 synthetic in normal climate. Right, expensive. I have a '91 Mustang GT with 90,000 miles and runs like a bullet. How often should I change my engine oil?Since you drive the vehicle very infrequently, once a year for an oil change would be okay....even if you only put on 1000 miles a year. How often should I change my engine oil?Once a year

How do I change the oil in my 1989 bayliner 2152?

I need to change the oil in my bayliner and do not know how. Also, what type of oil should I put in it? ThanksHow do I change the oil in my 1989 bayliner 2152?The old debate, change it hot or cold. Lets see, hot, oil is at the upper parts of the motor, not drained back to the pan, causes you to possibly burn yourself trying to get the hot oil filter off. Sure its a littler easier to pump out. Cold, all the oil is at the bottom of the pan, you don't get burned trying the remove the oil filter, the oil suspends any dirt that might be floating around, the filter gets most of it any way and the filter will not be as full, less spillage. I prefer cold.

You can get a hand pump that attaches to the dipstick and does a nice job, pumps it right into a container for you to take to a recycle place. Do NOT drain into the bilge, what a mess.

Use a Mercruiser filter and the 25w 40 oil.

Ignore the paper thin hull, you have a nice boat, built better than most. How do I change the oil in my 1989 bayliner 2152?take the screw off the oil pan, then you change the oil filter, fill with new oil. standard oil should be fine. but you may want to add something to the oil due to the age of the car, long life treatment. How do I change the oil in my 1989 bayliner 2152?There is a pump that screws onto where you put the dipstick.

After you have run the boat is the best time to do it while the engine while it is still warm.

How often do I change my oil for my 2007 bmw 328i?

How often(as in mileage) do i change my oil for my BMW 328i when before I changed it with synthetic oil and i am planning to use it again? How often do I change my oil for my 2007 bmw 328i?Here is what you do. I have the same car.

-Go to an auto parts store and buy about 7 or 8 quarts of BMW LL01 Approved Synthetic oil (I use Mobil 1 0W-40 European Formula. MAKE SURE IT IS BMW LL01 Approved !!! It will say right on it. There are lists of approved oils in almost all of the BMW forums. You should ALWAYS have a spare quart of oil in your trunk.

-Buy the filter for your specific car there too. (Don't skimp on this... try to get Bosch. If absolutely necessary, Fram but I would rather not)

-Take it to a shop who will do it at an honest price (I have a guy that will do it for $20) I would do it myself but unlike my Jeep we can't exactly crawl underneath these cars and it is nice to see your car up on a lift.

-MAKE SURE THEY DON'T OVERFILL IT!!!!! THIS CAN CAUSE THE OIL TO FOAM AND CAN RUIN YOUR ENGINE. %26quot;QUICK LUBE%26quot; PLACES ALMOST ALWAYS DO THIS BECAUSE THEY DON'T GIVE THE PROPER WAITING TIME FOR THE OIL TO SETTLE BEFORE CHECKING. CHECK YOURSELF NO MATTER WHAT!!! IT SHOULD BE EXACTLY AT THE FULL LINE AFTER THE CAR HAS BEEN SITTING FOR ABOUT 15 MINUTES ON A PERFECTLY FLAT SURFACE.

    - That aside, with synthetic oil I would change it every 7,000 miles. How often do I change my oil for my 2007 bmw 328i?The typical rule of thumb is 3,000 miles or 3 months, whichever comes first. However, if you're not doing a LOT of stop and go driving, you probably don't need to do it that often. I usually change my oil ever 5,000 miles, or every 6 months. How often do I change my oil for my 2007 bmw 328i?depending on it's miles, and your driving habits, oil changes can be done as much as every 8 thousand miles. Most BMW service techs are using synthetic oil which allows for more infrequent serviceHow often do I change my oil for my 2007 bmw 328i?Every 10,000 miles with BMW's. But call the dealer to put your mind at ease. How often do I change my oil for my 2007 bmw 328i?First the ol 3 months 3000 miles thing is a thing of the past(like 20+ years). Its what your dad (if your 30-40) would tell you and greedy oil change places advertise. Cars aspiration/ignition and ring design have come a long way making the engines run a lot cleaner MUCH more cleaner.

a lot of people are going to once a year now. Right before summer starts. But 10 to 15K between changes is NOT unusual and is typically the recommendation anyways. How often do I change my oil for my 2007 bmw 328i?Well whenever you turn on your car you will see i think about 6 squared lights 5 are green and 1 is red well when 3 green lights turn off that'ss when you usually gotta change your oil. How often do you change needles, and oil and clean your machine?

I'm curious, especially among the experienced sewers out there. How much do you use your machine (hours per week/month, whatever) and how often do you oil it and/or clean it yourself? How often do you take it in for service?

I'm wondering because I'm reading the official guidelines about oiling, cleaning and service, and I'm wondering if anyone really follows them? Do you really change your needle after every project? If yes to all of the above, do you notice a difference?

Thanks! How often do you change needles, and oil and clean your machine?I change the needle when I need to -- i.e., when it's bent or dulled, or when I'm using a different type of fabric than the one the needle was made for.

I oil and dust inside my machine after every 6-8 hours of use. I should also dust inside it when it's been sitting idle for a month or more, but rarely remember to do that one.

The machine runs much more quietly when properly cleaned and oiled. I don't take it in for service at all, but have learned to do some of the adjustments myself. How often do you change needles, and oil and clean your machine? You need to refer to the manual for your type of machine re: oiling. I have a Bernina and it rarely if ever needs oiling. It has never needed to be serviced. You do need to remove the dust and any thread from under the needle and shuttle area on a regular basis.( I use a whisk especially made for this purpose) I change needles when needed but always change to a ballpoint or universal when sewing knits.

I don't sew as often as I would like to but more for repairs and hemming.

I have added a link that I keep on my favourites as it is very useful to refer to.How often do you change needles, and oil and clean your machine? When changing your needles-it depends on what you are sewing. Not all needles work on all fabrics. since I quilt more than sewing clothes I change my needle after every project. (the rule of thumb is every 8 hours). I also recommend that you make sure the thread you use is right for the needle. I do not oil my machine. I do try to clean my machine (lint, thread, dust) after I have finished sewing my quilt top together. I have a small paint brush that I use for that. I know my machine is 40 years old and still going. I have only had to change the foot pedal and that's the only time I took the machine in for service. If I am sewing or repairing clothes I use a different needle than for quilting. That's because of the fabrics. I use mostly in-betweens.How often do you change needles, and oil and clean your machine? My machine is from about 1986. I got it in 1987 and I've never had it serviced. Every now and then I blow out and/or brush out the dust inside the bobbin area. I also change needles if necessary. For general purposes I keep a lightweight (size 11) ball point needle in there. It works on most everything. I don't sew all the time, but I have sewn a lot on that machine. It's a very basic Husqvarna. Come to think of it, the last time I used it, the reverse button was sticking. I might have to get it serviced. Oddly enough my 16 year old car is in the shop right now getting it's first huge repair. Things are falling apart around here! How often do you change needles, and oil and clean your machine?Yes. It makes a difference! I'm really bad about oiling, cleaning, and changing needles. I usually do it when it's bad enough that I notice that I forgot to do it earlier. Then the machine just sings again! I wish I had a better memory, but I'm usually too involved in the project to remember. How often do you change needles, and oil and clean your machine?I change my needle often and I change it if I am doing another kind of fabric. You don't want to use the same kind of needle for woven cotton as you do for a knit.

My machine does not require oiling. I try to service it once every 3 years, which is longer than recommended.

My Viking machine is over 10 years old and working like a charm

  • How often should you change the oil in a deep fryer?

I'm thinking about getting a small deep fryer for home. Do you have to drain the oil after you cook, every time? If not, how often should you change it, if you only use it once a week? How often should you change the oil in a deep fryer? It depends on how you store the oil. If you filter everything out and store it in a dark place without exposure to oxygen, it will last forever.

That is an ideal that you probably cannot meet, so you should ask how close to that ideal are you?

There are two problems with old oil. One is that it absorbs flavors from food and puts them in the next food. If you always cook the same thing, then this is not a problem. The other is that saturated fats will oxidize and become rancid. Even if you are using unsaturated oil, it will dissolve saturated oils from the food that you cook. If the oil was changed at the dealership as it should have been they should have reset it for you. The dipsticks at the jiffy lube probably haven't been shown the procedure yet.

How do you change the oil on a Honda Elite 80, and what kind of oil should I use?

I have a 1986 Honda Elite 80, and the red light has come on again. I know where to empty the oil, but I don't know:

    1) What type of oil should i use? (weather is always 40 to 75 degrees where I live)

    2) Do i just empty the oil and refill, or is there something else that needs to be done, like cleaning a filter?

    3) How do i get the switch to go back to green once i change the oil. The last time I changed the oil, it stayed on red.

Thanks. How do you change the oil on a Honda Elite 80, and what kind of oil should I use?Hi. Honda GN4 oil in 10w30 weight should be fine. 10w40 would be ok too. Put the scooter on the center stand, remove the drain plug, allow to drain (use a drain pan), replace plug, fill with oil. I don't know what the correct amount of oil is, so pour in 1/2 quart and check level. Set the dipstick on the threads- do not screw in to check. Add a small amount at a time until oil is on the dipstick. For the change light, there should be a slot just under the speedometer big enough for the ignition key to fit. Insert the key and watch the color change from red to green. Hope this helps. How do you change the oil on a Honda Elite 80, and what kind of oil should I use?check out this scooter oil: http://www.amsoil.com/redirect.cgi?zo=14

How to change oil on 2002 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R (J3)?

It's more of an open-ended question. I have my vin, but can't seem to yahoo or google what I need. What grade oil and filter do I need for my bike? How much oil (about 4 qts)?? Any special steps I should know or a website that will guide me. I found one for my Harley, but I'm new to the sportbike world and would like to save some money. Thanks!!How to change oil on 2002 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R (J3)?There should be a sticker on the gas tank. when you remove the seat it should be visible but it will tell you what oil and capacity. I used 10W40 during the cold months and 20W50 during the warmer months. the heat of summer makes the oil thinner so you want to run the heavier thicker oil so it doesn't thin out as much. During colder months the oil is thicker and takes longer to heat up and lube well so you run the thinner oil to counter that.

The drain plug should take a 11/16 socket. I think. Anyhow you'll see a bolt that doesn't hold anything in. It's located on the left side close to where the kick stand connects to the bike. Righty tighty, lefty loosie! drain it into a pan then plug it back up.

You should change your oil filter EVERY oil change. I've seen the ridiculous advice of doing it every other oil change. you need to change your oil filter every oil change. Just remember to put some fresh oil onto the rubber gasket around the top of the new filter and pour a few cap full of oil into the center chamber of the filter. This way there is already oil in there ready to be filtered. Otherwise when you start, the bike will be starving for oil for a few seconds until it can pump some through there and get it circulated. It is impossible to remove the filter without getting some oil on the pipes. Just clean it off with a dry rag and expect a little burn off when you start riding.

Seeing how it's June and all I'd recommend the 20W50. Get 4 quarts because your bike probably take about 3.5. The way you can find out it to put 3 in. It definitely takes 3 or more quarts. After three, have a buddy stand the bike straight up and you check the gauge. There should be a circular window on the engine cover. there will be a high fill and low fill line. The oil level should be right in the middle of the two lines. If you only have one line, then fill it to that line. Start it and let it run for a few, then shut it off and check the fill line again. Fill accordingly.

that's it!How to change oil on 2002 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R (J3)?If you go to youtube you can probably find a video of anything your triing to do. There are video's with step by step instructions. Other wise buy a manual its a smart investment.

How to change the oil in my dodge stratus r/t step by step?

These articles pretty much sum it up. Most people that change their own oil don't get a new washer to put under the drain plug. They just use the old one and tighten it real tight. But its not a bad idea to get one or it might leak after wards. Its a special washer that compresses when you tighten the nut. They can't cost more then a buck I would think. You will need the type of oil filter wrench that fits your filter. So go to an auto parts store and get the filter for your car. Then hand it back to him and say I want the wrench that fits this filter. You don't need a jack if you can crawl under the car without one. But a cheap hydraulic floor jack is pretty handy. If you do jack it. There is no need to raise the wheels off the ground. You only want to raise the front of the car a few inches. To give yourself a little extra room. Watch the oil its hot and it can be messy. The surgical gloves are a good idea. But chances are it will run down your sleeve anyway. Have fun.How to change the oil in my dodge stratus r/t step by step?First, you need to jack up your car. I strongly recommend using jack stands, but you can get away with out them. Locate the oil pan under the car. Make sure it's not the transmission fluid pan, because they are usually pretty close together. Remove the drain plug and let the oil drain into a drip pan. Put the bolt back on, and find the oil filter. In some cases you can remove the oil filter with your bare hand, but if not, you will need the special tool for removing oil filters. Make sure you have the drip pan under the oil filter when you move it, there is a sufficient amount of oil in there. When you put the new oil filter back in, it only needs to be hand tightened. Lower the car and put the recommended amount of oil in your car. I recommend using prolong engine treatment as an oil additive, I haven't had any trouble with it. Good luck.

AndyHow to change the oil in my dodge stratus r/t step by step?it is easier to show someone then explain through writing. All u have to do is:

    1. undo the oil drain plug (make sure u have a drain pan underneath the pan first). You will prob need a 14 or 15 mm wrench.

    2. unscrew the oil filter, u will need a filter wrench.

    3. Put the new filter on, put it as tight as u can with ur hands. Do not use the wrench to tighten it.

    4. Put the oil drain plug back in, tighten it down, not too tight though.

    5. Fill ur car with oil, it will say in ur manual how much oil ur car needs

While ur working on ur car, u should also check to see if ur air filter is dirty.

P.S. make sure it is brown fluid and not red, if it is red tighten back up, that would be trans fluid. How to change the oil in my dodge stratus r/t step by step?sell the stratus bucause they made a lunar engine block made of two pieces. the welds will eventually start falling apart and it will leak oil, making it where you have to constantly put more oil in. if you ignore the problem, however, your engine will catch on fire.

i think its better to have service done at the dealership anyway. Just think, the parts being put in your car came from the same factory, so in essence your car will run at its best because it uses parts made by the same company instead of aftermarket parts that may be of lesser quality. i think servicing your car at the dealership also helps your car hold its value though i could be wrongHow much should a regular oil change for a 2009 altima cost at a nissan dealership?Whatever they decide to charge.

How are Pennzoil 10 minute oil change centres in Canada ?

I recently bought a 2004 Hyundai Elantra with 78 K Kms. on it. It is still under warranty. Would you recommend going to Pennzoil Oil change centres for oil change and preventive maintenance jobs or should I take my car to the dealer for the same. Thanks for any suggestions. How are Pennzoil 10 minute oil change centres in Canada ?Dana

Sounds like you have a nice car there. No I would not use Pennzoil Products. I would use any major oil company oils but not others. Conoco, Chevron, Quaker State Exxon as Others. These products are very good oil made by honest people. Pennzoil is a %26quot;re-packager%26quot; or oils and a sales company; and not a %26quot;real%26quot; oil company.

Lately it is partly owned by Geo. Bush and others, but my history goes back 30 years before he decided to buy the company.

The manufacture of your car recommends a %26quot;ase 30w%26quot; oil or just a good grade of 30w oil. Pennzoil sells the bulk oil to the %26quot;oil changing shops%26quot; for about 45 cents a quart in 55 gallon drums.

If you look in the Hyundai mannual...they list oils but Pennzoil is not on the list for good reason.

There are plenty of shops who will change oil in your car. I would keep your car away from %26quot;quick change oil centers%26quot; because those who work there, are young and know nothing of cars.....just changing oil.

I know your proud of your car, and I saw your question and thought to add this comment, to protect your car.

Lots of people use Pennzoil......next time some one is telling you a repair story that cost so much.....ask what oil they use.

Over time you will remember this %26quot;answer%26quot; by some one you never knew.....and how very true this answer is.

You will find out, without spending money for repairs, or as many others spend hundreds till they wake up to the fact that the oil will destroy their car, as it is designed to do.

So there you are, do what you need to do......but at some point you will remember what you have read here.

Well, my family has been very deeply involved with Texaco and Conoco from the days they begun business. The major oil companies are very %26quot;picky%26quot; about their oils and have fine products at high government grades.

Oil packaged by Grocery chains, Part stores, and Oil %26quot;re-packagers%26quot; (Pennzoil) just want your money....and sell cut rate, low quality products for a few cents less.

There your are ....and this is the truth, people will say a lot of things....but if you doubt this advice.....call Hyundai, 800 number and ask.....they will be quick to tell you the same information.

If your around Calgary, ask anyone about Pennzoil...its a oil town....they will jump in you case good.....they know who owns the company.

How do I change the oil on a Honda 1990 accord?

2 more questions. How much does an oil filter cost? How bad is it to add new motor oil without doing an oil change? How do I change the oil on a Honda 1990 accord? The link below will lead to an archive of do-it-yourself car maintenance articles on the Honda website.

So far as the price of an oil filter, it depends. Price varies depending on quality, and even on how popular the brand happens to be. I usually only pay 5 to 8 dollars US for my filters, though.

Adding new oil without changing out the old isn't bad, exactly. It will even prevent catastrophic failure like your engine seizing up if there is a small oil leak and your car is running low.

The heat from your engine will cause the oil to break down, however. That, along with minute metal shavings and other dirt like carbon deposits, eventually build up in the oil. This causes your oil to become thick and to form a paste. This thickening oil will cause friction and increased wear, reducing your mileage and increasing the chance of needing a major repair due to something wearing out.

Have your oil changed every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. It is the cheapest way to extend the life of your car and increase gas mileage. This saves you money in the long run.

How often should I change the oil in my car?

I drive a 2006 Civic. The owners manual just says it should go to the dealer every 10000km for servicing. Should i do an oil change at that time only, or sooner? How often should I change the oil in my car? Most newer cars also come with a Maintenance Guide which is more detailed than the owners manual and will usually explain at least two different maintenance schedules to you -- basically one for moderate to heavy usage and one for light to moderate. If you did not get one ask your local factory authorized dealer that provides service for your vehicle to provide you a maintenance schedule that follows factory guidelines.

If you do not want to think about it and make sure that you maximize the engines life, every 3000 miles is usually suggested. If however you live in a warm non-dusty place like Florida and just drove your car casually most manufacturers suggestions would be to change your oil every 7500 miles. Doesn't need to be exact just a ballpark estimate please. What is the cost difference for an oil change for a diesel and a gas motor?don't go to a jiffy lube to get the oil changed in a diesel. change it yourself or have a buddy change it. jiffy lube doesn't stock rotella which is the only oil that should be used in a diesel. I'll get ridiculed by mobile fans but rotella is what should be ran. you can get a 55 gallon bucket at TSC for $55 or so and that's what should be run. I don't recommend jiffy lube anyway. those idiots don't know what the hell they're doing. they don't drain the oil all the way, 1/2 the time they don't change the filter, they're just worthless change it yourself or take it to an indpendant shop. they'll do it right. It may cost more but they'll put rotella in it if you request it. rotella t is expensive but there's nothing better than it.What is the cost difference for an oil change for a diesel and a gas motor?it's probably going to be at most only a few $ extra.

Jiffy lube is charging you mostly for the convenience and labor, not for the oil itself. What is the cost difference for an oil change for a diesel and a gas motor? The oil filter is harder to get to on a deisel, hence more labor charges... also more oil (bigger engine). What is the cost difference for an oil change for a diesel and a gas motor? It will cost around $20 more i'd think. I've never had diesel oil change done but they do hold around 4 QT more than gas burner roughly double the oil of a 4 CYL ranger. The oil filter is no harder to get to or to change though it is significantly larger. What is the cost difference for an oil change for a diesel and a gas motor?I worked at a shop in Utah until about a month ago. Our full service oil change on a car was $37.99. Our diesel service ran $79.99. It is quite a bit more expensive. The oil, and the amount of it is what drives up the cost. What is the cost difference for an oil change for a diesel and a gas motor?dodge dealer cost me $75.00 to $90.00 depending on the specials

How do I change from regular oil to full synthetic?

I have heard that there are %26quot;semi synthetic%26quot; oils that need to be used prior to full synthetic. Is that true? Or do I just start using full synthetic on my next oil change? How do I change from regular oil to full synthetic?Nope. Jump straight to synthetic. It's a machine, not a human. It doesn't need to learn to tolerate synthetic, lol.How do I change from regular oil to full synthetic? You can switch right over to a full synthetic without issues. Also, there is no issues with switching back and forth. The myths you heard are not true. How do I change from regular oil to full synthetic?you could just put it in there with the regular oil. but i recomend you to do a engine flush. then put the full synthetic in. and semi synthetic is a blend with regular oil and synthetic oil.How do I change from regular oil to full synthetic? No, it is not true. Just switch oils. How do I change from regular oil to full synthetic? Just change the oil. Change it the second time on the regular schedule because there will still be some conventional oil in there, then you can go to an extended change schedule.

Semi synthetic doesn't really have much of an advantage over regular oil.How do I change from regular oil to full synthetic? You can switch right over; but why? Is your car almost new? Older cars with wear will break you by having to add the costly synthetic. Even if your car is newer, you will try to go longer between changes which causes more wear because even if you change filters more often, much dirt and abrasive is kept in suspension (floating around with the oil) and acting like a lapidary, grinding things down microscopically. I've owned vehicles that were run on synthetic their whole lives and I've owned vehicles that were run on Valvoline their whole lives but changed every 3,000 to 4,000 miles, and those run on Valvoline but changed regularly lasted much longer. The only time I ever advised a customer to run synthetic was if the oil pressure took too much time to build on a cold engine (due to poor design- the oil pickup tube was too long, running the full length of the engine). How do I change from regular oil to full synthetic?Good advice Ray! My dad allways told me the most important thing about oil is that you change it. What you use won't make much difference. It's the changing that removes the contaminents. In order of importance...

90% make sure you have oil. Check it.

9% Change it regularly so that it removes contamination from the engine.

1% what kind of oil you use.

Within that 1%, it's probably a good idea to stick with one brand so that you don't have to worry about different additive packages reacting in some unforseen way.

If the oil gets contaminated with blowby, or moisture, it won't matter that it is synthetic. It still won't lubricate properly. I only use synthetic when the manufacturer recomends it. Even then, I do not extend the service interval.

I use Chevron iso-syn processed oil . It's nearly as good as synthetic.

  • How often do you need to change your cars oil?

The standard was to change your oil every 3,000 miles. Now I hear every 5,000 miles. I just had my oil changed--after 5,000 miles and

am not sure if I wasted my money as checking the dipstick the oil

was as clear as cooking oil after 5,000 miles?

Is changing your cars oil every 5,000 miles a waste of money? How often do you need to change your cars oil?It depends what kind of car you have, look in your owners manual it will give you a list of all the maintaince for your car and the mileage to preform this. If you don't have a owners manual go to the dealer and ask for this information. You can never go wrong by changing your oil , better to often than not. One more thing find out the recommended grade of oil for your car, using the wrong oil can do engine damage in some engines. So to answer your question both yes and no on wasting your money. How often do you need to change your cars oil?i use synthetic oil so i only change it about every 8500 miles, when i used regular oil though i changed it between 3-and 5 thousand,if it wasn't synthetic oil you had in it 5 thousand is plenty enough miles to put on it ,with synthetic you can go up to ten thousand and be safe ,good luck. How often do you need to change your cars oil?Use multi grade oils such as 5w-20, 5w-30, 10w-40. etc. whatever your vehicle recommends

Is an oil change really needed or can it wait another week?

Ok, I drive an small size SUV and my maintenance light came on which indicates an oil change is needed. However, I checked to see how low it marked on the metal stick and it was a hair above the second bump. Can I hold off doing an oil change until fri of next week or should I do one today? I don't want to ruin my engine, but at the same time I don't have the money to get it serviced this week. By the way, I dive approximately 108-ish miles daily. Please advise. Is an oil change really needed or can it wait another week?the oil doesnt need to be changed unless it has been over 4 months or 5,000 miles. its ok to wait a week. but if you check the oil and it is low then you should add oil to the engine if your gunna wait over a week to change the oil. low engine oil may potentially cause problems to the engineIs an oil change really needed or can it wait another week?If it's been less than 5000 miles since the oil was changed, go ahead and wait a week.Is an oil change really needed or can it wait another week?sounds like you change oil regularly so waiting a week shouldn't hurt.Is an oil change really needed or can it wait another week?U better get it done right now before the motor blows up. FRI next week would be 8 days so 864 miles shouldn't hurt it.Is an oil change really needed or can it wait another week?yes you can wait a week!! 500miles more will not hurt your motor, if you are scared that it will add oil refresher, like motor honey oil, this will add to your viscosity that has broken down

Can I just fill it up with new oil if it gets low?

    What kind of oil?

How often should the oil change be done?

And how do I do the oil change? Is it really necessary to change the oil on my lawn mower? If I must, what kind of oil to use?Yes it is for the health of the motor. The oil not only lubricates, but also cools the engine as well. So if the oil is dirty, it has particles, dirt and carbon in it that prevents it from doing its job.

Almost every engine uses SAE 30 oil. It is suggested that the oil should be changed every 25-50 hours of use, or at least once a season.

But you need to consult the dealer first about a full synthetic change over. When my dad wanted to do his Escape that way, they told him a complete flush to get petroleum based oils out was needed. Also if you run out of oil your engine locks up.How important is an oil change on your vehicle?Yes its very important and should be done a minimum of every 3000 miles if not sooner. The oil keeps your engines parts slick so that there is less friction. When oil gets old or looses its viscosity then it doesn't do its job anymore and your engines parts will heat up and sieze. which means new car ...:)How important is an oil change on your vehicle?VVVVVVVVVEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRYYYYYYYYY IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!!! The pistons (engine) need the lubrication that the oil provides. The oil eventually wears down and doesnt lubricate good anymore and needs to be changed. Your car might run for a long while (maybe a year on average use) but the pistons will eventually no longer work and you will have to change out the entire engine to make the car work again. How important is an oil change on your vehicle?more important than anything elseHow important is an oil change on your vehicle?the oil is like the blood of the car and if its not clean and good it can mess up everything in the car does like a chain reaction and the metal of some parts will get on the oil and it the oild will mess up everything just like our body if our blood aint clean the body starts to shut down completely and you dont want that to happen to ya carHow important is an oil change on your vehicle?THE THICKNESS ( VISCOSITY ) OF THE OIL KEEPS THE METAL PARTS COOL AND RUNNING SMOOTHLY. IF AND WHEN THE VISCOSITY IN THE OIL GETS THIN BY CONSTANT USAGE, ESPECIALLY UNDER HIGH VELOCITY, THE METAL PARTS START TO RUB TOGETHER, METAL AGAINST METAL. THIS CAUSES FRICTION, FRICTION CAUSES HEAT, HEAT WILL BURN YOUR ENGINE UP. ENGINE RUNNING PRODUCES CARBON BUILDUP IN THE MOTOR, THE OIL FILTER GETS SOME OF THIS. THE REST STAYS IN THE ENGINE. IT AFFECTS THE PISTONS, VALVES, RINGS, AND THE HEADBLOCK. NORMAL CHANGE SHOULD BE EVERY 6 MONTHS, OR EVERY 3,000 MILES. KEEP A RECORD. ALWAYS CHANGE THE OIL FILTER WHEN YOU CHANGE THE OIL. Yes its necessary if you'd want to keep your engine in good condition, and for your fuel tank.

As you did not state whether you meant engine oil or fuel, i'd just briefly explain both.

    Engine oil

You pour engine oil into a sump called your oil sump, where ur dipsticks measures from there. The engine requires this oil as a lubricant so that it can run smoothly. However, if the oil is either insufficent, or too long, which will make it sludge, you will be grinding metal soon.

    Fuel tank

At the above stated mentioned milage, its better to have your fuel tank emptied, and flushed out, as fuel which has been sitting too long in your tank will form sludge. If its not too serious, your would experience accleration problems, and wrong fuel indicator readings, if its serious, good luck starting the engine. How important is an oil change on your vehicle?changing oil is the life of your engine. oil breaks down after it has been used for awhile. i will admit to not changing oil in my mazda b2000 for 130.000 miles. it still ran just fine

How much does a full service oil change typically cost with full synthetic oil?

I had a $10 off coupon at a Valvoline instant oil change figured I might as well use it. I had a full service oil change done with full synthetic oil (synpower 5W30) almost 5 quarts used. The total came up to $63.84 in Massachusetts. Is that normal for a full service oil change with full synthetic oil, I know thats top of the line oil but it just seems high. (Its a 97 awd eclipse gsx with 73k miles on it so trying to keep it in good condition)

Looking at the receipt, it says $37 for parts and $25 for labor. So what are people being charged for labor and parts when their oil change is only $20 bucks? Is Valvoline just expensive? The labor was higher because it was full service? Thanks.

I dont think I was necessarily cheated but I'm just not going to keep paying that kind of money for an oil change. How much does a full service oil change typically cost with full synthetic oil?Figure that synthetic will be $20 to $25 added on top of whatever the price of the %26quot;normal%26quot; oil change costs, so $63 is entirely believable. I.e. I was shocked how much a quart of oil cost in Tennessee compared to Pennsylvania.

When you see a %26quot;$20.00 oil change%26quot;, that probably means using a coupon, for a standard filter, about 4 quarts of conventional (non synthetic / dinosaur oil), labor and fluid disposal.

You can expect store bought Full Synthetic to cost atleast $5.00 bucks per quart (per individual quart bottle).

Sounds like they charged you $6.00 bucks per quart and $7.00 bucks for the filter and maybe fluid disposal fee ?

Give or take a few bucks.

I wouldn't consider Valvoline the most expensive oils, one of the best by the way :o).

Mobil 1 Full Synthetic is probably most expensive..or AMS oil.

I'm traveling about 200 miles this evening, and I'm 1500 miles overdue for an oil change. What I'm wondering--should I check my oil and top it off or is this not the same thing? How bad is it for my car to keep driving? Should I really go get an oil change before I leave this evening?

Change your oil. It is a lot more time consuming to replace the engine than to change the oil.
