How to change my saturn's oil with broken plug?

My saturn SL1 is due for an oil change but it has a broken plug (it's stripped I think). There was this one mechanic that always changed it's oil but I can't seem to get a hold of him. My boyfriend tried changing the oil by siphoning the oil out with a tube but he said that the tube needed was too thin and it wouldn't suck out. He doesn't really know how else to change it. Is there any way my boyfriend can change the oil or fix the plug? How to change my saturn's oil with broken plug?buy a special socket for stripped out bolts,,this should work,,,or buy a off set pair of pliers,,,that grab stripped out bolts and nuts,,,this has worked also,,,,u can have a welder,,at almost any shop,,,weld a nut to the existing bolt head,,,this has worked,,,,or have ur boy friend take a socket,,a good one,,craftsman etc..a hair smaller than the bolt and have him hammer it over the stripped out bolt and break it loose,,,they all have worked on cars I fooled with in the past,,,,if these dont work,,hollar,,we will think of sumthing...How to change my saturn's oil with broken plug? Some oil change centers use a device made by %26quot;Vaculia%26quot; it has a nylon thin wall tube inserted down the dip stick and uses negative pressure to draw the oil out. The only other option is replace the dammaged oil pan.How to change my saturn's oil with broken plug?Top up the oil then take it to any car centre that does tyres exhausts %26amp; oil changes, most dont remove the sump plug to save time %26amp; have a machine that sucks the old oil out - your cheapest option Id say.How to change my saturn's oil with broken plug?you need to get the old plug out even if its strippedut some vise grips on it and pull while you turn counterclockwise to remove it, let all the oil drain out and take the old plug to an auto parts store there you can either buy an oversize plug that will re-tap a larger hole or my favorite is a rubber plug that they sell which resembles a baby bottle nipple it comes with a tool that you insert into the plug that stretches it out %26amp; thins it at the same time then you insert it into the hole %26amp; remove the tool %26amp; the plug expands into the striped hole %26amp; seals it off. I Hope This Helps!

Peace and God Bless,

NickHow to change my saturn's oil with broken plug?you need to get that plug out, they make a self threading repair insert and new plug. Take a large pair of diagonal cutters (dykes) and loosen the bolt as far as you can, then place the jaws of the dykes under the bolt head and squeeze, this will keep downward pressure on the bolt as you turn it out, keep the jaws on the bolt shank pulling down on the handles using it to pry until the bolt is completely out, then replace the bolt with the new insert and new bolt and change your oil.How to change my saturn's oil with broken plug?I believe you can get a re threading kit for around $100. Before you invest the money, seriously try harder to get in contact with the mechanic that did your oil changes. If he did the oil change and stripped the plug, he should be fixing or replacing your oil pan.How to change my saturn's oil with broken plug?I would follow Nick's advice and get the oil plug changed. If the plug is stripped or rusted in there, it is possible that it is damaged and may actually start leaking oil...all over your driveway...on a long trip in the hot summer...stuck in mid-town traffic.

Best thing to do is go to a place like Jiffy Lube, explain about the plug being stripped, and ask them if they can get it off, change the oil and filter, and put on a replacement plug that is not damaged. You'll probably pay $24.99 for the oil change, another $5-10 for a new plug, but afterwards you can either let your boyfriend change the oil, or have it done anywhere.

Siphoning out the old oil is not really a good idea, since you probably won't get all the way to the bottom of the oil pan, and any sediment (metal shavings, corrosion, dust, dirt, etc) will still be in the bottom and may get mixed up with the new stuff as it cycles through your entire engine, causing more wear and tear.
